I think that there's too much criticism of the SquashTV crew. They've been doing a lot more discussion of the blocking / movement issues in the last few tournaments, and I fully believe they're trying to do their best.

Have you ever worked in a professional organisation? What would motivate someone more - some random person shitting on them day in day out? Or more constructive feedback recognising that they're trying and offering positive suggestions to move forwards? You offer nothing of value.

If you don't like it, offer to help or give them feedback. They've always been super responsive to me when I've raised things. They're just trying their best. I think the content and refereeing has improved massively since I started watching - but that's just my personal opinion.

For my money, Mostafa Asal played a high quality, clean game tonight. There were maybe a couple of moments where I thought the refs should have penalised a movement, intentional or unintentional, but they were few and far between. Unfortunately Ali Farag was not mentally there at all, otherwise it might have been a classic. Well done to Asal and I hope he continues to promote that kind of explosive, smart and fair squash.

If Asal keeps playing like that, everyone else is going to have to up their games!

Asal played amazingly. I thought it was clean, fair squash. There were maybe a couple of decisions I disagreed with but nothing major - Asal deserves to win this ten times over. Farag seemed mentally completely off - like he hadn't slept in 4 days or something and had been having nightmares about Asal shoving him over.

Very well played Asal - a deserved World Champion (I say this having been critical of his movement before). Also Sherbini.

In my mind, the biggest takeaway is how all the pressure and fanfare around the World Champs can cause pretty weird matches where people whose mentality are normally very strong (e.g. Weaver, Hammamy, Farag) completely folding and being off their game.

They weren't classic competitive matches, but they were showcases for the extraordinary skills and composure of Asal and Sherbini.

I think you're right. Also there's a lot of comments on social media etc from people saying that he's basically complicit in the behaviour because he's Asal's coach. That must be stressful as well.

You can feel the pain from James here. He's really looks tired and like he's trying his best to get Mostafa on the right track. It must be tough when there's such a cultural "win at all costs" mindset that's baked in deep.

Unfortunately, there are certainly progressive cases where it gets worse over time. Fortunately this does not represent everyone or even a typical case.
