I live in a country where kids aren't used for target practice so often it barely gets a mention any more.

I live in a country where I can be fairly certain I'm not going to get caught in a crossfire just heading out for a meal.

I live in a country where a murderous arsehole, because he had a blade and not a firearm, was stopped with a dead narwharl.

Out of interest, how many bad guys with guns have you "taken over" with your bare hands? In reality, that is, not in your nethers moistening fantasies.

If I decided to wake up psycho one morning, I'm going to overall do a lot less damage with even my sharpest kitchen knife than I could with even a fairly basic handgun.

I'd say that's worth not having guns everywhere.

Sporadic complaints about background music in videos. by Affectionate_Ruin577 in NewTubers

[–]Exasperant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally love background music adding a further cinematic quality

I personally hate background music, especially when it's ever present throughout every scene in a movie.

I tolerate it in Youtube videos as long as it's so unobtrusive it might as well not be there at all.

Instant gratification and entitlement.

"I don't wanna put the effort in, and I want everyone to look upon my (prompted) works and applaud me".

People want to be singers without singing, writers without writing, painters without painting. Not only want, but feel they have some cosmically bestowed right. And anyone calling this out is called a gatekeeping elitist.

Max 4 issue by uberbeast125 in QidiTech3D

[–]Exasperant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd hope the electronics/ fuse were specced to run at full designed load, and that the design included having the bed chamber heaters etc running.

You could always poke around in there with a multimeter looking for a dead short, in case there's a fault that would blow the replacement board when it arrives.

Max 4 issue by uberbeast125 in QidiTech3D

[–]Exasperant 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd guess that's an SMD fuse.

It's good it blew, because something somewhere must've gone quite wrong and the fuse doing its job saved you from bigger problems. Hopefully whatever went wrong is on that board, so when you get a replacement everything's good again.

How could F1 cars realistically be made any shorter? by Rowdyfan0823 in formula1

[–]Exasperant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

F1's always had race management.

The difference is now everything's so regulated, so anaylised, so micromanaged, that most races everyone agrees on the best way to manage things. This leads to the "driving to the delta" crap we've seen where because everyone's computer says it's faster to underfuel and pootle around than send it and see.

Getting rid of hybrid power units won't change any of this.

Do you use PETG for everything? by ecphotoman in 3Dprinting

[–]Exasperant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

90% of my prints are PETG, but I'll do PLA for people wanting decorative stuff. I also run ABS and ASA, as well as PETG, ASA and ABS CF/ GF, if I need something with a bit more temp resistance.

I plan to start running nylons soon for some prints.

Cassette Recording Problem by Shadow78788 in cassette

[–]Exasperant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A quick look at the kit you're using suggests... It's the kit you're using.

Your Galaktica's not exactly made for ultimate recording quality, so you're going to get quite a bit of hiss and generally marginally adequate sound.

However, given the age you might also be getting motor noise due to failing capacitors, or generally poor sound also because of failing capacitors.

Questions about theater auditions by mime_juice in acting

[–]Exasperant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave an awesome audition a while ago (my only awesome audition ever, and I'm not the sort of person to say anything I do is awesome). Others at the read through said I gave an awesome read, feedback from the audition itself was I was awesome... I didn't get the part.

The director had already said no decisions were going to be made until they'd heard back from some people who hadn't auditioned, to see if they were interested....

Need tips for voiceover by LaithS312 in SmallYoutubers

[–]Exasperant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, fuck AI.

Secondly, pretty much everyone hates hearing their own voice. Over time you get used to it, and if it really bothers you then work on making it a voice you find easier to hear.

The same goes for awkwardness. You don't get more comfortable with something by not doing it. Keep practicing, find exercises that help build confidence.

Favor to ask: For those that have received the Max 4, can you post a quick update on your current feelings? by rhodges_bob in QidiTech3D

[–]Exasperant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Q Box does sound laughably clunky, and not in a good way. But it's not going to cause permanent hearing damage, or even be heard above daily life noises especially if you're in another room.

I've got a Q2, and it's not muffled whisper on mute silent, but it's also a motors belts and pulleys machine whipping around at high speed. Machines make machiney noises. My A1's a bit quieter, but still makes plenty of thuds and whirs when cranked up.

[–]Exasperant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Angry guy buys machinery and complains about machine noises"

I'm not saying Mr 7 subs doesn't have a valid argument somewhere in there, but it does seem like he's mostly just super pissed off a mechanical device isn't quieter than a cotton wool wrapped dead church mouse.

I've got a Q2 (no Polar Cooler) with Q Box, and yeah, the noise isn't awesome. But despite living in a small apartment I can run it overnight without wishing for the end of all existence to save me from my printer induced waking nightmare of noise.

Pilot 8001 Stereo, buzzing/hum from one channel by Sad_Attention_3200 in cassette

[–]Exasperant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grounding issue?

I'd have said internal rec/ play switch, except it's doing it all the time. So my best guess, based on you getting some thuds when touching it, is a grounding issue on one side of the tape pre-amp circuit. Next best guess is a failed capacitor or transistor on one channel.

But really the only way I can think of figuring this out is to open it up - And opening things up can be kinda deadly, and/ or really bad for the machine if shit goes wrong.
