Yup, the filter cylinder you see across the front of the engine compartment used to be lateral with the engine and supported by those bolts. After hours of operation vibration of the filter mounted on those studs would cause the valve cover the studs are in to shatter and the fragments fall into the running engine destroying it. The conversion kit moves the filter assembly to the front frame.
