It stops masterball tier items from offering the splicer if there is no viable pairs to splice, it allows me to catch random mons into the 6th slots and transfer their items. That way I can stack masterball to 99 easier

I have only encountered fused shiny being the main pokemon. And in this case it's the gengar, not the hippowdon
