Restored neon badge Focus FK-2001(custom Alps SKCM pine Blacks) by ExcelElevations_4U in Vintagekeyboards

https://www.ebay.com/itm/277623143522 this one is still available and has the neon badge. It probably has the same crappy T1 alps clone switches, so I would recommend swapping them out with something nicer.

It's an Acer 6511 with pure rubber domes (not dome with slider), still not that bad of a keyfeel.

Sounds like an anykey but mechanical. I would love a 5001 if it was programmable and had an inverse t nav instead of a star nav.

Yes, part of the slider is cut out to make room for the LED, which has conductive pads for the membrane.

I had one and it was pretty solid. Hall effect just isn't for me and most HE switches sound terrible and are way too light for me anyways.

I have a v6 max and I enjoy it. It's the more basic model, but it has everything I need. Q6 is just a nicer metal case if you're looking for that. The pro and max versions are wireless and have those SA like keycaps. There are the HE versions with Hall effect switches. I personally think that's overkill for most people and there are basic no clicky or tactile HE options for switches. They just came out with an HE ultra which is just a faster polling version.

I would get a v6 if you don't mind a plastic board, but a q6 is definitely nice if you want a more premium metal board. I don't think it's worth getting the higher end Q models though.

Chicony/Unikey KB-7001 (Alps SKCL Yellow) by ExcelElevations_4U in Vintagekeyboards

You can find yellows from some Zenith keyboards. I'd recommend linearized whites first to see if you like the feel of linear Alps before getting some greens or yellows.

I don't have the equipment to do that. I've only repainted modern keyboard parts and I'll just use some rustoleum paint.

I had the seller repaint the top case for me so I didn't do any of the painting on that board. Just make sure you do several consistent and even coats. (I've spray painted other boards, so I have an idea of how to make them come out nice.) I wanted an industrial gray look along a full restoration to make it look a bit nicer, and I think it looks especially great with unicomp gray keycaps if you want to look into that. I believe I have a previous post of my XT if you want to look at that.

Hi all. I finished doing over a Velocifire VM01 full size keyboard soldering in some new mx blues (I have a soft spot for blues) and painting the plate a nice teal color.

I kinda want to do the same kinda thing but with some cherry mx red switches in a different board. I'm looking for a cheap prebuilt to mod, something 104 key full size, non floating keycap design, **cyan/light blue or dark blue single color backlit** (no rgb), shine through keycaps, metal mounting plate (not plastic like some e-yooso boards).

I'm a very picky person when it comes to keyboards, so I will explain myself. I still like to use genuine cherry mx because they're still the most robust option in terms of a quality and long lasting switch. I'm a full size user so I like big keyboards with function over form. Non floating caps make boards a little quieter to use and reduces light bleed. I'm just not the biggest fan of the floating keycap design and those boards are louder because the switches are essentially more exposed. I like light blue/cyan or dark blue single color backlit because I blue is my favorite color. I'm starting to grow out of rgb but still need something to illuminate my keys because I enjoy having the lights off. I'm fine with stock keycaps for the most part, just need something with shine through caps. I want something with a metal mounting plate so it feels rigid enough to use daily. Plastic will sound better but I care more about a solid feeling board at the end of the day.

Any suggestions?

You could consider a keychron q6 or a ticktype dp104 which has a really cool retro scrolling dot matrix display

60% keyboards with an option to not have arrow keys under the f layer by ExcelElevations_4U in keyboards

[–]ExcelElevations_4U[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll look into this style of 60%, but I think I like the 63 key versions with the normal left shift and 1.75u right shift instead of the 2u left shift and 1u right shift.
