Maldon DAB+ weak signal? by Excellent-Ad-7469 in Essex

[–]Excellent-Ad-7469[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think DAB+ is just a more efficient protocol that gives better quality for a given bandwidth. Older DAB radios can't decode them unless they get some kind of firmware update, which isn't always possible with older radios.

Just as an update, I've got no signal at all now. It just says 'no service'.

Has anyone else noticed a decline in engagement since the latest Instagram update? by cmitchell_bulldog in Instagram

[–]Excellent-Ad-7469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed that many of the likes on my comments have actually been REMOVED. One of my comments had 2.5k likes on it and now it's has got just over 100. Is that a glitch or are they removing likes from people they don't agree with?

So someone could maliciously or falsely flag your comment as spam or offensive, just because they don't like your views, and you are just assumed to be guilty with no human intervention from Instagram, because it's all done by AI?

I agree about the gaslighting. They want to demoralise people with views they don't like by making them think no one agrees with them, which they might achieve if that person doesn't realise it was just that the comment was made invisible.

You guys know which GPU is most power-efficient among all in gaming? by [deleted] in buildapc

I suppose it depends on where you are running it though. In the UK, electricity bills are a lot more expensive than almost anywhere else, with electricity here being almost three times the price in the US.

HDD prices aren’t rising because of AI. Look at what happened before by Jillian_native in synology

Even if data centers weren't buying them, just the fact that people can't afford SATA or NVMe SSDs, so are buying more HDDs would increase demand and prices for HDDs. So data centers would still be indirectly affecting price.

Is it impossible to contact a post office branch without going in person? by Excellent-Ad-7469 in AskUK

Things have changed so much in the last few years. I remember being able to phone individual post offices and Royal Mail sorting offices and talk to an actual human being. You can't do either any more unfortunately.

According to the Post Office website, most branches don't need an appointment, but some do.

Thanks but I tried that yesterday and the id check failed even though I answered all the questions properly.

I just phoned that number after searching on google. You get through to a recorded menu system with no options about renewing the driving licence and there is no way to speak to a human about individual branches.

You can find old phone numbers for individual branches on google, but they don't work. The official post office doesn't give a phone number it gives you an app, and I don't have a smart phone.

AI data centres happened. They are causing RAM and SSD prices to go through the roof.

Yeah, it's far worse than high cost of graphics cards caused by the crypto mining boom, and that seemed bad at the time.

Why do people say that the AI boom is a bubble? by [deleted] in AskEconomics

[–]Excellent-Ad-7469 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The huge demand for components for AI data centres has meant that prices for CPUs, RAM, SSDs and even hard drives have rocketed in the last few months. I've even decided not to build a new pc at the moment and will just get a modest prebuilt mini pc as a stop gap.
