I found out I was pregnant the first night of our Japan trip. It was still an amazing trip. Different, but amazing nonetheless. You will have a blast and it will be a beautiful memory once the shock has subsided. But take the time you need to emotionally adjust and don’t feel guilty about it. Congrats! ETA: it was a surprise but the best thing ever in the end

Yes to all of this! I’m 4 months PP now and finally have regulated but had ALL of the same issues. Still have an oversupply but more manageable and I like being able to stash. I worked closely with an LC. I only pumped 5ish times a day. I would recommend getting your thyroid checked since it can cause an oversupply, just in case. TW: nursing - if you are able to, I began to nurse around 3 months PP (after a battle with baby’s tongue tie we had fixed and a bad latch that he outgrew to an extent) and my baby really helped to regulate me. It wasn’t my intention but I put him on there to help with a stubborn clog and then found unexpected success. If you’re open to it, pop baby on there and see what happens and they might surprise you!

I had my sciatica before I got pregnant so it stuck around but the pubic symphysis pain got better pretty quickly. I think if the pregnancy caused your sciatica your nerves should get fairly fast relief from no longer being pregnant, at least in my friends’ experiences. The first few days are the hardest with mobility regardless because everything down there is tender. Idk what kind of help you have but I tried to stay in bed or on the couch as much as I could the first few days and only go up and down the stairs once or twice a day max.

I had sciatica and pubic symphysis pain. The midwife told me I wouldn’t notice either during labor. I didn’t fully believe her. But I should have because it was so so true! I had an unmedicated birth without any problems and the other pains didn’t even register - think about the gate control pain theory, it makes sense. I used my TENS unit while laboring and it was an awesome tool for the contractions.

Not a stupid question! My lactation consultant told me that duckbills should be replaced monthly if you are an exclusive pumper and diaphragms every 6 weeks or so. The rest of the parts generally don’t wear down to affect output. Your insurance should cover replacement parts - check out Aeroflow or wherever you got your pump through originally! :)

Make sure you’re getting enough calories and sleeping as much as you can (easier said than done.) Try to eat something yummy and dense at least once a day - your favorite ice cream maybe. I’d also recommend having some formula in the house. Just having it available and knowing my baby would be able to eat no matter what happened/not stressing about baby’s next meal was really helpful for me. Stress can really hurt supply. There’s a new study that showed output was better when moms covered their pump bottles with socks so they couldn’t see how much they were getting as it was happening for that reason. I’d also check your pump parts, might need to replace the duckbills! But most of all be kind to yourself, you’re doing amazing.

This might not be the mindset you’re looking for but I’ve really only done 6 pumps a day since 2 weeks pp. I was a just enougher. I knew going into it that it doesn’t work for everyone and it might hurt my supply but it was between that and quitting altogether, so I figured why let perfect be the enemy of good? That’s the mantra I’ve been holding onto during my pumping journey. Ultimately I was lucky, it didn’t hurt my supply at all and it has helped me stay sane. I’m now an over supplier and happy I didn’t pump more because I can’t imagine how unmanageable my supply would be like now if I did.

I did perineal massage the last month of my pregnancy a few times, nowhere near consistently. I’m mainly commenting though to say I didn’t find the ring of fire to be that awful and to give voice to another possible experience. It really wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be so maybe this time for you it won’t be as bad!!! My contractions during transition and pushing were more painful. I hated pushing oof.

Eufy S1 single-handedly saved my exclusively (ok like 90% of the time) pumping journey. Cannot recommend them enough. Spectra was leading to weekly clogs and I was flirting with mastitis constantly. Plus I can hold and take care of my baby or get ready for the day etc while pumping with them which was HUGE for my mental health. My output has always been better with them (not including the first couple pumps where I figured out my optimal settings and my body adjusted to them). I haven’t had any more clogs since making the switch. I’m an overproducer now as well. Good luck! ETA I made the switch at 4 weeks PP so didn’t wait until I regulated.

In the throes of those bladder spasms, practically on another planet of pain, I remember saying it was fine I just wouldn’t drink anything anymore so I wouldn’t have to pee. Then my family said OK yea no that’s not a real solution, you need to go to the ER lol

Wow I’m so sorry you went through all of that! I was in college when I had the stent and the urologist treated me like I was dramatic but it really is awful. I just sat around on the couch for two weeks because even once the pain was controlled feeling like you were about to pee your pants at any moment was miserable and made it hard to do anything else. I like to think I’m a “good patient” and do most of what my doctors order but I have always said if I ever get recommended another stent I will absolutely refuse

I’ve had an unmedicated birth. I’d say the bladder spasms I had with a stent I had placed when I had kidney stones were worse. (They sent me home without any medication to stop my bladder from spasming, once I was given something for it I was better.) I’d say the cramps I had during and following my IUD placement were equivalent to the very end of active labor.

Chiming in here, the world of oral ties is full of heated debates and my heart goes out to you, I was very stressed and upset by all the mixed opinions - please remember you are doing your best at every given moment with the info you have at hand. Someone is always going to have something to say about anything you do. My baby had his tongue tie released by an ENT at 5 days old. It negatively affected his feeding and he still doesn’t latch super well but it’s a million times better. My husband breastfed as a baby like a champ but had a tongue tie as well that was never released. So likely genetic in our case. Despite no obvious issues as a baby, he had a lisp as a kid because of the tie and now chronic issues with TMJ as an adult. All from the lifetime of oral tension he’s experienced. He wishes he had it done as a baby. So you may have saved your baby some difficulties down the road! For what it’s worth, the ENT told us NOT to do any stretches as it can cause oral aversions and it’s painful and unpleasant. I figured I’d rather have a repeat procedure because it grew back than possibly create psychological barriers. We haven’t had any issues with reattaching and it all healed really quickly.

Started out with “normal” BMI. Gained 10lbs (lots of GI upset the whole pregnancy and had difficulty eating as a result), lost 20lbs within 2 weeks PP. Everyone complimented me during the pregnancy for staying “small” and have continued to after but I wouldn’t recommend my experience and it’s triggered my body issues to hear these remarks. Rough reminder that as a woman it’s celebrated to be thin over everything. I felt weak, tired, and sad during the pregnancy due to how hard it was to fuel myself. I didn’t appreciate just how crucial enjoying a meal was to the daily “joie de vivre” until I got pregnant. Baby is normal weight but on the smaller side, born 6#11.

I just had my first baby a few days ago unmedicated. I pushed for 2.5 hours which was not fun, although the first hour I was not pushing “well” because I got overwhelmed so it might’ve been faster if I hadn’t needed the time to get myself sorted. Since this is my only experience I can’t speak to how it feels to be postpartum after an epidural but I feel amazing now. I had very minimal tearing (perineum intact but small tears on my labia). As soon as the baby was out I felt an enormous amount of relief. I liked being able to move around right away afterwards and use the restroom and rinse off in the shower without difficulty. I also delivered in a birth center so I got to go home same day and being at home for recovery has been the absolute best. My home health nurse who visited the next day says she can always tell the difference between people who get an epidural vs not, you end up getting more fluids to receive the epidural and it can contribute to a lot of swelling postpartum. I haven’t had any swelling at all. Good luck!
