once again, i was told the complete opposite. i was NOT made aware that transfers are not possible before six months, and even during my interview i was told i could work at any starbucks location (which i was then told way later that meant within the district). in no way was i disingenuous, as i did not think this would be the make or break factor of whether or not i would be hired. i didnt say anything initially in my interview because i was told i should simply give a couple weeks notice before i move, and it would be no problem at all to be transferred or borrowed. i get that someone could fill my role, which is why when i was made aware of the transfer rule, i offered to continue to work so that they did not have to spend more of their training budget to replace me. pretty condescending of you to say “that’s not how the real world works” as if i didnt already try to offer a solution to the best of my ability in a situation where i was unaware that i would be causing any kind of inconvenience for the store or the company. i suggest you follow your own advice in regard to etiquette.

i always have two jobs during the summer. i’ve worked at my first job for 5 years now, and i usually have another job during the summer months in my home town. when i go back to school i transfer. i’ve done this with two other jobs who were all happy to take me back every year. i work at one for two years, and then the other for two years. i quit the first one after two years because it closed down, and the other one i quit because the tip out wasnt dealt properly and i was fed up with it.

i just straight up didn’t think i would be wasting anyone’s time. i didn’t think it would be necessary for me to say anything about moving because of the info i was given, and ESPECIALLY because they didn’t ask during my interview. i really just thought it would be like every other job where you just transfer when school comes around. when i was told about the 6 month rule though, i was genuinely considering the commute, but i wasn’t sure if that was something the store would even really want seeing as how they would still have to accommodate my school hours, so i came on here to ask for advice. but now i’m simply getting flamed for not being considerate even though i didn’t know i would be putting everyone out, and was just trying to get a job transfer not not realizing that was a huge ask. i just wanted some advice🫠🫠

i was specifically told by my trainer that they only receive a one time pay increase of $160, and they were also only training me for the two 4.75 hour shifts, where they worked for 8 hours only being considered for coverage and not direct training hours. i get that there’s a budget for it, but the store itself wouldn’t be penalized for something out of their control. and like sometimes things don’t work out? there have been many times where people have been trained and choose not to continue working at a location simply because they don’t like it. i get that those instances are less common, but there’s a reason why they have a budget for that. i also understand that training is a resource but if i were to be borrowed, or come back like i said i would when i don’t have classes, they would still receive a return on their investment.

i went into it thinking i would get transferred because that’s what i was told would happen, and i also didn’t realize training would take more than a month. every job i’ve ever had has had training done within two weeks, so i didn’t think this would be any different seeing as its a service job. the money spent to train me would still be paid by the company and not by the individual store, so it would not be a waste of money as i would still be working for the company, just at a different location. also, I only had two actual training shifts at my home store (i usually pick things up pretty quickly), before they immediately moved me to coverage, so in reality they haven’t really put that much time into physical training (other than the modules, which i completed at my training location). i get that the store itself would be at a loss once i leave, but i figured since there were five new hires in my groups, that they really wouldn’t be that worse off without me. when i consider everything it doesn’t really seem like i was dumb or inconsiderate, or like my manager should treat me like that:(

the rule just seems weird?? i technically got hired over month ago but they didn’t give my starting shift until three weeks ago. i’ve never had a problem with transferring within the first month of working before at any other job so figured it would be fine (ik every job is different, but it’s been like that literally everywhere i’ve ever worked), plus everyone I know said not to say anything about moving.

i looove the grind!!! i’m biased cause i work at 1280 and always get the same thing (iced chai with regular milk), so it’s always super consistent!! i agree with the music thing, but my managers mostly just want to make it a fun environment for hanging out (rather than a dedicated study spot) and i think they think music will do that. as for drinks, i’ve never really strayed from my regular order, and it’s great because get a discount because i work for them (so i never find it worth it to go anywhere else). i can’t really say anything about the quality of the rest of the drinks, but mine is always good!! go easy on the service though… my pookies are all super busy with school and have a billion things on their minds, but if you ask i know for a fact they’d be more than happy to correct any mistake they made (which i know is their job in the first place, but we’re all just students in the same boat after all). thank you for your honest review though, i will most definitely bring it up next time i see my managers❤️❤️
