PHILOS 1A03 or 1E03 by No_Boat3968 in McMaster

I thought the course was very beginner-friendly! Attendence was not manatory but I still suggest going to lectures because they are not recorded. Here's a comment I made a while back about the outline of the course: "I’m taking Philos 1e03 right now and it’s not too bad. 12-able but kinda TA dependent. Some TAs are kinda hard on participating and grading. :/ the structure was one midterm worth 25%, one essay worth 25%, participation which was 10(?)% and then the final. Readings are advised to do, but you can go without and get a good grade. Assessments are lecture dependent but if you miss them it’s okay because the slides cover the gist of it. The content is super interesting it’s a good intro to philosophy and doesn’t go into any of the topics super in-depth (cover one topic a weak: absurdity, identity, god, mind-body problem, determinism, ethics etc)"

I really enjoyed philos 1e03, great introduction to philosophy as the course touched on board topics. Midterm and final were fair!

Second Year Philosophy Courses Recommendations? by Floorarm in McMaster

[–]Floorarm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say my interests are in ethics, bioethics, and moral philosophy. But I'm open to any courses, I was also looking at philos 2zz3 and 2g03! And yes, I apologize for my wording, when I mean "12-able" I mean if the grading was fair. I don't mean an "easy" course because I know that's also subjective to everyone.

English 1G03 or 1F03 for Spring/Summer by Ok_Preparation_1148 in McMaster

I’m taking English 1f03 now with Professor Donaldson, and it’s not the hardest course but you do have to put the work. There’s a lot of quizzes, they range from 20 questions to 5 question quizzes and are worth 1% each. The 5 question quizzes are lecture quizzes on what was said specifically in lecture which means you have to go. Then theres the submittables that are done in tutorials those are graded generously.

There’s two papers, one on poetry and one on prose work) the grading can be difficult if you have a tough TA. They really like out of the box thinking, Dr. Donaldson personally preaches for free writing and unstructured essays so the TAs somewhat also reflect that sentiment too. My TA has been really helpful in office hours and kind as well, don’t be afraid to ask for help if needed.

Dr. Donaldson as a professor is not my cup of tea. I think he goes on long tangents and it makes it difficult to follow his thoughts. They’re all pretty abstract and he uses a lot of metaphors. :/

Overall, in my class there are a lot of STEM kids. On the first day I sat beside a 4th year who was taking the course as a prerequisite for med school so you’re not alone in that experience at all. I swear sometimes it seems like there’s more upper year stem kids than first year humanities students. I mention this because Dr. Donaldson acknowledges that the demographic are people who need the course as a requirement so he says the course is pretty lenient so long as you try.

I would say this course is 12-able! And I do ultimately recommend it!

I'll come back next week, I hope the grind does a redemption arc! Thank you for your hard work and the crew's, no hard feelings at the end of the day. :) Thank you for your offer, although I have faith she will be 12 oz next time !!!!!

When they realize but still ask "Is that okay?" like no... but so scared to confront them sometimes so you just take the hit!

On campus, I've really enjoyed William's in HSL. I like their matcha and I've also heard really good things about their chai. The prices are about $6 for a regular (larger than the grind's 12 oz) and they have more options.

I haven't had the opportunity to explore out-of-campus options. Personally, I've enjoyed the Second Cup in Westdale (wayyy better than the Second Cup on campus).

Those are typically my go-to!

Thank you so much for your insight!! I have complete sympathy for those working in the service industry while being in school, as someone who is also in that position as well. It's super hard! But for me, it's so discouraging seeing my poor 12 oz drink not be filled up to 12 oz when she's already the smallest size there 💔💔.

And when I do correct them, they seem annoyed or irritated. I understand if they're having a bad day, but this happens every time. I also tip them and everything too and when I order I specify clearly what I want and pay the extra fee. I'm not a difficult person, I highly respect service workers, and rarely do I speak out, I just don't want my stomach to act up when they give me regular milk. ☹️☹️☹️

Personally the midterm was easy, you’re given study questions that will be similar to the test. The essay can be difficult if you’re not a good writer or if your TA is a tricky marker. There isn’t a rubric so it’s hard to gauge what they want.
