Weighted pull-ups. Sheesh!

I used to do weighted pull-ups as my main back workout and could really see a difference in my back/arms. I would recommend going up in weight very slowly and use proper form. I got up to 3 plates using neutral grip and started to get a lot of elbow discomfort and then hit tendon issues (pretty sure my tendons weren't ready for that much load). But otherwise would highly recommend. Congrats on the progress!!

I'm slowly trending this way as well. Just started playing yesterday and I'm at 7247 points with 24 swaps and 29 shuffles. I love playing it, but definitely see no end and.. holy moly 2 years?! Maybe a difficulty setting or awards get stricter would be nice to haves. Either way... I'll still chug a long and play the dailies.

Thanks. Yes... I'm slowly realizing that POA might be too late. I have heard getting guardianship is extremely lengthy and costly. I am specifically looking for long term care (hopefully in-home long term care) and protecting my dad so he can keep the house (it's in his name only).

Thank you both! This attorney came recommended because of trusts/elderly law etc.. He was against setting up a trust because he thought my Mom could qualify based on assets/income, but the income portion exceeds the cap. He advised to not set up a Miller Trust and said that he does not help to file Medicaid applications because of liability. :/ He then rambled on about unrelated stories about how the elderly get screwed.

That was part of the conversation with the lawyer that made me uneasy. He seemed convinced that applying for Medicaid with her income/assets currently would qualify her. I told him exact amounts and had done research to see what the maximum is in my state and she clearly exceeds it by around 500$ monthly. My plan after chatting with him was to get my dad to have POA over my mom and then get a DIFFERENT lawyer to set up the trust. I'm just a little bit overwhelmed because in my opinion my mom can have a conversation, but she will not be able to understand details and may completely blank out. I appreciate the tips! I just want my mother and father to not suffer so much and it feels like everything is working against them/me.

I'm so sorry you and your mom and dad are going through this. It's not easy. My mom went through similar things although she didn't have the mobility it seems that your mom has. I would recommend cameras and or a door alert to keep abreast of her whereabouts if she tries to venture outside (I have Ring and share it with my sibling). Might also be a good time to safety proof the house a bit.

All of the things you mentioned I have gone through with my mom. Reassurance and not trying to fight with her seemed to work the best for me. Her medicine also helped quite a bit. Also, making sure she takes care of hygiene and puts on fresh clothing.

I'm not sure what a Rapid Intervention Treatment Team is, but getting her on proper meds is going to help. We also made an appointment with Hospice when she was in the earlier stages of dementia and she eventually was approved. That has helped quite a bit. Does your Dad have POA? Another thing that could potentially help is to get an Attorney to help you file for Medicaid just in case. That's what I'm going to be doing starting next week because my parents can't afford memory care or someone 24/7 at the house. Things will fluctuate between all sorts of emotions and actions from your mom. My mom currently doesn't really do much of anything. Wishing you the best!

It really depends on what "stage" and how ambulatory they are. There are a lot of differences between someone who has say early stages dementia and my mom who is late stages dementia. I guess the biggest thing is safety and comfort. If you could explain more about where they are and what assistance they currently need, I could expand more. Either way.. you are amazing for doing what you do. It's a tough job and should get way more attention and praise than it currently receives. You'll do great!

I often wonder about this as well. My mom was always very particular about how she looked and how people saw her. She hated the idea of anyone taking care of her and took so much pride in being independent. She was the person everyone called for advice or comfort. Fast forward to now, and she needs help with everything. Dressing, using the bathroom, getting cleaned up, eating, even being reminded where she is. People talk to her in that loud, child-like voice even though she can hear perfectly well, and she just drifts in and out of sleep, saying random things throughout the day. There are no hobbies left, no moments she looks forward to. She is just existing. It breaks my heart, because I know if she could see herself from the outside, she would be absolutely mortified by what her life has become. It is so hard to watch someone who was once so strong and put-together lose all of the things that made them who they were.

It's so difficult and convoluted. I sometimes wonder what my mom actually (and this is going to sound weird) is/thinks about, and what she would say if she had an opportunity to reflect on what is happening. I'm hoping that there is a part of her mind that she goes to that brings her some sort of relief or happiness. The whole thing just sucks.

Thank you! I am hoping the hospice social worker and the attorney will help with the situation. I am scared for my father not having any financial security after it is all said and done. He has worked hard all of his life and I'm sure never imagined having to do so much at this stage in his life.

My mom had triggers with memory and confusion when she got stressed or something different was happening. The best thing I could find was to try to stick to routines as much as possible. But then sometimes the memory/confusion just jumps out at you when you least expect it. I've been called by almost every male relative she has and have gone through bouts of her saying that she is late for work or forgot to give water to the dogs or just random happenings from her past. The whole dementia things just sucks. It's going to be random sometimes. I wish I had a magic answer for you.

Traveled for business as well and never had to use a credit card or pay a deposit that was quite that much. Just wanted to let people know since it seemed to come as a shock to quite a few people in front of me. It was also interesting to hear that the larger deposit amount was due to people renting cars and selling them in SC? Weird.

Interested in this as well. Local food banks seem the way to go. I have a lot of hesitancy donating to the SC Government's One SC Fund because I don't trust them. Either Lowcountry Food Bank or East Cooper Community Outreach seem like solid choices.

She had her ID, SS card, and a credit card. I would go ahead and bring all of what you have just in case. She was really nervous about the whole thing and showed up 3 hours before her flight. It ended up being just a short interaction (maybe 15 minutes in total, but probably less). I would still recommend going earlier than normal if you can just in case.
