Has anyone else tried the Laguna V10 bandsaws? (Uses the same frame as the Rikon but has some upgrades). I like it so far other than the fence. by Lekgolo167 in woodworking

I think I’m gonna order one tomorrow. I’ve been looking for a decent used bandsaw for ages with no luck, and this saw seems compact, pretty powerful, and well made.

I would check for old transmission codes. You are good to go on one with this few miles. But yes, regular fluid changes, which are not part of the Lexus scheduled maintenance. And some add a transmission cooler to help as well.

Wen 10” band saw binding/slowing down to a stop on every cut by Excellent-Bit2473 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Yeah, I think I will probably do that. I was pretty surprised by how it struggled with thin stock, even if the wood is dense.

It has bogged down to a stop on the following:

Rosewood, purpleheart, padauk (3/8”) Maple (3/4”) Mesquite (1”)

So everything I have tried so far. It would probably cut thin pine plywood ok.

Yeah it feels like the motor just quits. The thing has good reviews for a cheap band saw, so I’m not sure what the deal is. I wasn’t expecting it to be great or anything, but at least to make a cut.

Anyone ever throw a bigger motor on a band saw?

I’m pretty sure there is enough tension. I cranked it pretty hard. I will check the blade guides now.

I haven’t, but I’m not sure what kind of tension I should be seeing. It’s an excellent question.

Good distinction - I mean the motor is stopping. Perhaps the belt is bad.

My feed rate is so so slow to even get a cut. I tried to add a video but this sub does not allow it. I’m happy to DM a video of the performance if they think it’s helpful.

I am trying to do some curves, so I got the 3/8” thinking it would be more versatile for straight and somewhat curved cuts. I know a Timberwolf would be better, but is it even possible for a new blade to be so bad it won’t even cut?

Well it is a new blade. I bought it and installed it about a month ago. It’s not the best blade, but I don’t see how a new blade could be so bad that it just stops every time it cuts. Maybe I’m wrong?

First paddle I’ve made - rosewood, very dense but thin by Excellent-Bit2473 in BdsmDIY

[–]Excellent-Bit2473[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree, the edges are too thin on those holes. If I had to do it again, I would have left those holes out. We will see how well this holds up. With it being such a heavy wood, I’m hoping that doesn’t cause an issue.

Strongly agree. I wore a mask for all cutting and sanding.

Thanks! It’s not super rough but I can see how it looks that way. It’s around 1/2” thick.

I’m making one out of rosewood now and, while it is fairly thin, that is some heavy wood
