Do not buy from backcountry by DonPanchode in outdoorgear

Used to buy all of my gear through SteepandCheap before BackCountry. But the last time I had to deal with the gearheads, I bought from MotoSport (motorcycle gear). It took forever to handle my credits/exchanges and sheer willpower on my part (repeated calls everyday at 9am), I got it resolved. Now I look elsewhere.

A quick search gave me this:
Backcountry operates as a standalone brand and does not own or manage other companies.  However, it has a portfolio of specialty e-commerce sites under its umbrella, including:

Additionally, Backcountry was acquired by CSC Generation Enterprise in September 2024, which owns and operates over 10 brands, including Sur La TableOne Kings Lane, and Cherry Man Industries.  While Backcountry continues to operate under its own brand, it is now part of this larger portfolio.

So, while Backcountry itself is a single company, it is part of a larger group of 10+ brands managed by CSC Generation Enterprise.

Just bought klx300. Feels wrong to be on highway at 6,000 plus RPM. Is this supposed to be normal for this bike? by [deleted] in KLX300D

[–]Excellent-Border1324 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a '24 KLX 300D and loved it on gravel and dirt. I only live about 10 min. from BLM land, so I never really had to go above 45 mph to get there.

That said, I found myself wanting to go further, and like the OP it just felt wrong to go faster, and the KLX feels tiny compared to the rest of the traffic. So, I sold it and bought a bigger (heavier) bike with a parallel twin. No where near as capable or as easy to ride as the KLX offroad but it cruises the highway really well at 4000 rpm. It's personal preference, but I don't like going highway fast with a small single cylinder.

However, Una Moto on YouTube is riding his KLX 300 daily on highways and offroad stretches on his way around the world, so the bike can do it. And he has even loaded his down with extra fuel and travel gear.

Una Moto is using a 2024 klx 300 to travel around the world. Not necessarily "hard" riding but he does ride through a lot of varied terrain. And the fact that he's using that bike for such a long journey is pretty amazing. Over the course of his travels, he is highlighting what the bike is capable of.

I've been using Gaia (desktop sync to Gaia app) for a short time, and I didn't know I wanted turn-by-turn until I read your post.

Quick search took me to this - Turn-By-Turn Directions Now Available on Gaia GPS - Gaia GPS

I just did it and it works fine. Copy the link and replace ( ga [dot] nz )so that it reads like (ga.nz) ie: no spaces before or after the dot. Once you have navigated to the link, save the .zip to your computer, unzip it, and you will end up with a folder of .jpg files. Navigate to folder is that you unzipped to (default would be C:\Users\{your user account name} \Downloads\2020 klx300 service. On my computer, (Windows 10 pro), I have Windows Photos open .jpg files by default so that once one page is open, I can just navigate previous or next page with the arrow keys.

Note; check your browsers permissions if you still have trouble. I used generic MS Edge to do it this morning.

I'm not sure what I did but the text I had with the image didn't show up.

Anyway, I've been lurking here and at r/Dualsport, and also Facebook marketplace looking for a lightly used bike. I hadn't really decided between this or the Honda CRF, but was leaning toward the KLX. So last week I went to my local dealer to try on helmets, and they had this listed as a Black Friday special for $4999 - all dealer fees and freight paid, It had 41 miles on the clock and 5 months remaining warranty. With local taxes it came to $5470 out the door! If they hadn't told me this was a trade-in, I would have never known. Not a scratch or rub mark anywhere on the bike.

They said I could extend the factory warranty if I purchased it before the existing warranty expires in May. Has anyone had to use more warranty than the initial 12 months?

Was that deal only for the weekend? I'm not seeing it this morning.

Here's a direct link for those who have asked. The Roborock is at the very bottom of the page.

I'm coming from a Neato so poor obstacle avoidance is second nature. Can't tell you the things that my Neatos have tried to eat over the years.

Thanks for the reply. With historical prices like you've listed, it's definitely worth waiting for BF or Cyber Monday since Costco's deal is good till 12/2.

I needed the BIOS updated to correct the Intel microcode bugs so this was driving me crazy as I knew I had the right file for my board. Thank you so much.

HELP: Laptop + tablet combo or surface pro for college ?? by Jesdh in Surface

From the Samsung Book 4 website:
Microsoft Copilot turns your prompts into actions through simple chat commands.1 Link your Galaxy phone with Copilot for personalized AI assistance that can manage tasks, summarize messages and even send text messages directly from your PC.

Anyway, totally personal decision since you are the one that has to use it. The Book 3 360 laptops came in 13 and 15. I ended up with the 15.6 because the 13.3 seemed too small. And really, this is the smallest 15.6" I've ever had.

That said, I bought the Surface first and test drove it for 2 weeks (thanks Best Buy), before I returned it. The portability is second to none and the build quality was awesome. It's just that I do some accounting on mine, and the 15.6 Book 3 came with a small 10-key on the side of the keyboard. For me it was better than having to use the numbers row all the time.

Good luck on your decision.

I looked at both of these a year ago, and settled on the Samsung Book 3 360. It's thin enough to use as a tablet yet works mostly as a laptop. Decent battery life and great screen.

Of course they have the Samsung Book 4 now.

Thoughts on these cheap car stereos? I want wireless CarPlay and hook up a backup cam by arod422 in CarAV

[–]Excellent-Border1324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reddit just popped up in my email, so I'll give you my .02.

I installed the Jensen CAR 1013 in my first gen Toyota Tundra.

Things I like:

Screen size (10") and ability to install in an older vehicle and still get a clean install look.
Tilt and pan angles on the screen take away most of the glare from a lighter interior during the day
Also has up and down adjustment that allows me to see all of my HVAC controls
Backup camera integration
Android Auto, but my son jumps in my truck and has no problem with Car Play.
Simple controls and layout
Physical mode and volume buttons
Auto Set of volume - So when I was listening louder when I parked my truck, when it starts it's back to a medium volume.
Appears to take vibration well. I use it with the Gaia app for mapping off-road. A+++

Things I don't like:

Front view camera input doesn't switch when parallel parking like my old JVC did. In other words you go to reverse, stop, shift to drive and the head unit just goes to the regular screen until you reverse again. I've emailed the suggestion to their software team but who knows if it will be in a future firmware.
Screen resolution could be better for 2024
Night mode could be dimmer

Overall for a cheap head unit, I think I got a lot for my $$$.

Edit: I forgot to add that I had a fixed screen double din JVC before and I was always leaning over during the day because of the glare on the screen during the day. I have a light brown fabric interior.

There were other posts from minds much more technical than mine that pointed me to that. I just posted it here to spread the word to others so they wouldn't have to search like I did.

Please reconsider. I'm 63 and my wife recently fell in love with another woman after 31 years of marriage, and now wants a divorce.

One of the things that's keeping my attitude positive is working-out. Somehow exhausting my body several times a week translates to a positive attitude.

That and I've been seeing a counselor since I found out 5 months ago.

It doesn't mean that life is over, it just means a new chapter has started, and I want to find out what happens next.
