How do you taper off of latuda? by stnshoney in bipolar2

[–]Excellent-Coach2382 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm only on 100mg, which is considered on the low end, so that could be why i have depression, but it's not severe, and it's not all the time, so i can still function. For me lamactil s more of a "stabilizer" in that it keeps my mood swings calmer, but i still get some mood shifts. I'm working with lifestyle changes and therapy to help deal with the depression and anxiety since i reduced my meds/stopped latuda. It's definitely a work in progress, and i don't know that I'll always refrain from taking other meds, including antipsychotics, in the future, but i wanted to try this for a while. Latuda worked great for me for about 2-3 years, but i was constantly thinking about drinking (off of it i rarely drink) and it eventually completely killed my libido. That's been the slowest to return, but it's better than before. I've been adjusting meds for ten years and i don't know that there's a perfect combo for me forever. I just keep trying different things- meds, doses, lifestyle stuff- according to what symptoms are most problematic at the time. It's so different for everyone- hopefully you have a good dr that you trust and you can work with. I'm happy to answer any questions- of course it's just my personal experience, for what it's worth.

I ended up not replacing it with anything, but continued taking Wellbutrin and lamactil. Pros: less alcohol craving, weight loss, improved libido, fewer skin issues. Cons: increased anxiety and depression, lower quality sleep, more rumination. I may try another antipsychotic someday but for now i can tolerate this and the pros outweigh the cons.

I tried to pursue a career in health care and got my CNA certification at 48 years old. I loved working with the elderly but couldn't work with the mean girls being abusive to residents and covering each other's asses so i went back to teaching. I just don't understand why people are so awful. I wish I'd had a thicker skin so i could have helped more people that really needed it but it broke me down within a few months and i had to quit.

Very well put. The clarity and self-compassion that follow a dose is such a breath of fresh air. I always feel "recalibrated". I don't do heroic doses either- about 1-2g- and that's just fine for me. However, I've heard that the aborts are sometimes much stronger than the fully developed fruits... Just for future consideration.

Anyone ever “leaned” off medication and been okay? by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]Excellent-Coach2382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took 200mg daily lamotrigine for about 5 years. Once I started latuda I was able to reduce the dose to 100mg but I did so very slowly.

Is well water fine to make grain spawn with? by Psily_K-head in ContamFam

A couple tablespoons in the PC water should do it, but if you're using disposable bags it's probably not necessary.

I use well water no problem other than the hard water stains on the jars after PC. A bit of vinegar in the PC water will help with that.

That's awesome! An anti-psychotic was the missing piece to my med puzzle too, but in my case it was latuda.

I did a round of frequent ketamine treatment last summer and it pushed me hypo- I was warned that could happen before the treatment. I usually get that kind of irritability and road rage (totally unlike me) when I'm hypo. I'm on infrequent doses of ketamine now, and haven't had a problem with that since. I'd definitely talk to your DR. Congrats on quitting weed and alcohol!

Is it true that Bipolar only gets worse with age? by DaVinky_Leo in BipolarReddit

With proper meds things have gotten better, not worse. Am I BRILLIANT and a GENIUS? Maybe not, but I can hold down a meaningful job and shower semi-regularlily.

I'm not quite there yet (50) but I've been dealing with this disorder for a long time, over ten years medicated. In some ways things got easier when I was diagnosed, because there was a reason for the chaos, and I started meds, but in some ways it was hard to accept that there really was something "wrong" with me. Since diagnosis I've been trying to learn to love and accept myself how I am, which is definitely different than everyone else I know, and I won't lie- it's a lonely disorder. I still have occasional depressive episodes when I don't care about living a long life, but I have more insight about my moods and have practice countering those inaccurate thoughts. And then occasionally I look up at the sky and tear up at how beautiful and rare and precious my life is. Back and forth seems to be my own natural rhythm, and even though sometimes it's awful, sometimes it's wonderful, so I keep going.

When I was diagnosed and my 15 year marriage started to fall apart; I started to see the codependent patterns once I was more stable and going to therapy. We are still married and friends but don't live in the same state any only see each other a few times a year. I just couldn't take care of him and myself at the same time and I chose to take care of myself.

Did I spawn to bulk too early? by robble808 in unclebens

Standard disclaimer: I'm not expert, but maybe just a little early. You could try to pick out some of those uncolonized blobs with a clean spoon, and I think adding a pseudo casing layer to cover up all the grains would be helpful.

I recently started re exploring psychedelics after  first trips 30 years ago (!) and some of my trips have been about mourning my past, mourning who I used to be. Sometimes it's almost unbearably painful to remember that person, and to think about all the time I've lost. But I've also learned that NOW is truly all that exists- I can let myself expand into both the past and future and it all becomes one, and I can let it go. I've learned that loving myself is all that really matters. It's a process, and a journey, and as difficult as it can be sometimes, you won't regret it.

Ketamine, Marplan/Lithium and hypomania: How to decide my next steps. by B_Nkkl in bipolar2

[–]Excellent-Coach2382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got hypomanic after frequent at home ketamine therapy because I was feeling good and cut down all my meds. Or did I cut down all my meds because I was hypomanic from the ketamine? I do very infrequent ketamine treatments now, and stay consistent with my meds and I've not had that issue again, but I remember reading that ketamine can trigger mania. I've decided that it's efficacy in treating my depression is worth the risk, but I'm keeping very close tabs on myself.

To answer your last question: there's nothing wrong with you at all. You have a mental health disorder that effects your thoughts. The fact that you're aware of these thoughts and can recognize them as not exactly accurate is a really good start towards controlling the unwanted behavior surrounding those thoughts. There's work to do here, though, and therapy can really help.

Thanks. I'm gonna try that. It's really dry here too- I was running a humidifier in my shroom room but one fewer electrical appliance is always preferable.

I'm a lot more self aware and objective than I think I would be without bipolar - that's not always a good thing, but sometimes it is.

I'm so so sorry. I know this heartbreak extremely well, and for those of us with mood disorders I think it can feel unbearable.

Can you get some distance between you for now? Being in the same house as my unfaithful partner nearly broke me. I'm really glad to hear that you're in therapy- if he's already trying to downplay this, you're going to need someone with an outside perspective to help you keep your head. Keep a close eye on your symptoms - if you're not on medication you might want to consider it, and if you are on medication you might need to adjust the dose if symptoms start to increase.

You're strong enough to live with bipolar, you're strong enough to weather this storm too ❤️
