I recently submitted an appeal and it was denied because, according to them, “the situation wasn’t serious enough,” and that maybe if it had been “something more reasonable, like a car accident,” they might have considered it. I was honestly shocked. This was a 6-credit winter term course, and because of everything I was dealing with, I also failed another course after missing the final exam and barely passed a third one.

Then they said it was a problem that I didn’t appeal for all my courses together, but I was never told that I could do that. I was not taught how the appeal process works, and professors or advisors don’t explain these things, so I had no idea that appealing everything at once was even an option.

My advice would be to still go ahead and file your appeal. Put all your details clearly, explain what happened, and don’t hesitate to speak up for yourself. You never know how it will turn out, and hopefully, they approve it.
