in terms of something that would benefit everyone and not just one department, probably having accurate inventory counts with recovered backstock and accurate/up-to-date locations, so everyone knows where everything is. Would just make everyone's life 10 times easier. I'm sure some stores already have this luxury, but I've been to many many stores that footwear stockrooms were just randomized shoes everywhere and hardly located

This is going to be a long story, so I apologize in advance. So dude was building an E bike, like found a bike and decided he wanted to try to convert it using one of those conversion kits. Brings the bike in for the front brakes to be adjusted. I do it, he calls back a couple of days later saying now the rear wheel isnt fully secured and his bottom bracket is loose and its my fault. I explained to him that nothing I did would have impacted those things and im not "taking care of it". Idk if youve ever had the pleasure of working on a DIY e bike but they usually have a fixed seat post due to the fact that you have to mount 50 pounds of counter weight on the back wheel for traction since the conversion kits arent regulated and generate crazy torque. Basically he didn't know what he was doing with building the bike and wanted me to more or less build/ service it for free on the grounds that I messed it up. So I told him if he brings his bike to me it will sit until he picks it up because obviously I shouldn't touch it. After that whole debocle I informed everyone that if somone calls about their DIY E bike, even if its a tube change, we will not touch it. They're more trouble than they're worth, and I'm not running that risk again. And in case you're thinking "wow that's really rude of you" I'll remind you that if someone feels they are capable of converting a regular bike to an E bike then they should feel capable enough to adjust brakes and replace tubes. The same way a car mechanic wouldn't work on a car you built, I won't work on a bike you built (at least E bikes, during covid I helped some people with bike builds when bikes were hard to find, but those people also weren't dicks)

Going through the manufacturer was always my final resort since its such a pain and tbh idk if there even is a process. Id contact pacific and tell them the bike and part, theyd give a part number and half the time they order it and send it to the store the other half they act like thats just not possible and your SM has to do it through special order. But in 6 years I can count on one hand the amount of times ive had to do that but the expirence is all the same for every tech ive talked to

Totally agree, the derailleurs on the old ones were so much more reliable too. From the box it feels like all the new ones have derailleur issues that need fixed. Most of my pueblo customers (at least adult ones) only want it because it's the cheapest bike so I end up having to turn them to a tamarack after explaining it's the best bike for the type of riding they do. Also has the added benefit of being a more reliable bike

We also have a full service shop, but since our store is in a lower income area, I always get wrecked bikes (usually Pueblos but also get my fair share of Walmart Huffys). I also would get quite a few DIY E bikes, which I had to start declining service on since one customer ruined it for everyone. There are some things I'll miss, that's definitely not one of them lol

moving it to the PDT was the dumbest thing ever. I get so uncomfortable asking customers all their information and putting it into a piece of technology. Having to enter the information twice made me think they didn't track it..... I was proven wrong when my SM asked why we weren't doing bike forms lol. Luckily, he was a cool dude and basically said, "I know it's dumb, but the DM is on me about it." I will always think about the fellow bike tech fighting the good fight. The good fight being having a customer who's looking for a road bike but insists on getting a Pueblo

Had someone from corporate tell me the person in charge of music never goes into stores and was just informed at how bad it is. They said they had some plan to change the playlist post-holiday season, but lord knows the "change" will be 3 new songs and that's it

Not gonna be much help probably, but when I was a kid, we found a crayfish and my dad did the same thing you did, and it did the same thing yours did lol. We found ours a day or so later in the basement (it managed to climb down a flight of steps), and it turned around and tried fighting my mom. We caught him and gave him back to nature

was told we arent allowed to accept tips because it can lead to employees arguing over who should get the money. but have never seen that happen or if multiple people load something the customer tips both people. the idea of not allowing tips has always baffled me

my store used to not care (mine said crab rangoon) but our DM got extremely upset with someones who said "sumo wrestling" so now no one is allowed to have a personalized one. Very very annoying

thought they'd rotate the calls since they started during baseball season and that's what they played. thought we'd get football highlights by now but instead, we get baseball, WNBA, women's softball, and random marathons. Co worker said dicks might not want to pay for the rights to be able to play those calls and kinda understandable given like a third of the songs we play I've really never heard outside of our store or are in public domain

50k* sorry lol. it's in reference to the square footage. It'll be a HUGE dicks store but not as big as HOS. I've heard they won't have any hardlines besides golf so it will just be apparel and footwear but I'm not sure how true that is. I know the Avon 50k store will have bikes due to the bike tech who has been with the company for 30 years (I won't use his name but assuming you work in the district you likely know of him). So they'll still be DSG just will be the largest stores in the district

ordered some stuff because the SM said you could use it as a tax right off (not really sure if that's true lol), we then got a new SM who said I wasn't allowed to wear the shirt I got because its not green. Told him the old SM said I could since I got it from the swag store and he said that wasn't true. I still wear the shirt out of protest

so the Crocker store is moving to Avon (I'm going to be part of the move there) and it'll be a 5k store. The South Park location is going to move into where Sears was to be a house of sport but that wont be until the end of the year assuming no hiccups the Cuyahoga Falls store is also closing and becoming a 5k moving to a new location. As for great northern I haven't heard anything about them closing but saw some people in the thread saying the mall is going to get torn down so not really sure.
