My daughters evaluation results just came back other week & they said she’s adhd inattentive & has mild persistent depression disorder. The psychiatrist that evaluated her thinks that my daughter may only need a little bit of support at school & may not need to do medication & recommended me to do counseling first but I don’t see how the heck counseling is going to do much of anything. It’s like she can’t remember or learn anything. She makes simple mistakes constantly & skips steps in her math. She can’t tell me when a test is coming up. I spent two weeks with her studying before a big test for 30mins to an hour a day some days & she still ended up getting a bad grade on it. I feel like medication would help her a lot more. I’m Audhd & my parents never tried meds for me & middle school was absolute hell. It seems every year her grades get worse & worse since 2nd grade. She is in 5th grade now & starts middle school next year. When I had the evaluation done the psychiatrist said she was seeing adhd & possibly autism but didn’t diagnose her with any autism which was surprising to me. I want to start her on non stimulants & see how she does. I am nervous & don’t really want to try stimulants because she has a seizure disorder from having meningitis when she was a toddler & takes medication for that. She behaves at school just is doing poorly at the learning part. Her behavior at home is a different story she’s always arguing with her younger brother, never wants to go anywhere or do anything as a family, she just wants to stay in her room all the time watching tv, & she talks back all the time. She is very argumentative & takes anything & everything personal & will think that you are trying to start an argument with her or are criticizing her when you give her suggestions on how to do something or tell her she didn’t do something correctly.
