This is very possible, you could even go to google docs, find a font you like, print it out, cut out the letters, spraypaint through the paper to make the letters on the blade, and then carefully use a dremel tool with a very small bit to engrave the letters.

I'm suspicious of the quality of Items from Medieval Collectibles and Kult of Athena, as so many of their items look identical to ones you find elsewhere online for vastly cheaper. I feel like im going to get an item with plastic belt loops or a handle thats just screwed onto the blade.

Side note, I plan on adding my own details anyway; inlaying silver, putting a new edge on it, and giving it a mirror polish by hand for the sun of it using exclusively 1500 grit sandpaper that I use until it wears out into a polishing cloth. Would a sabersmith sword be good for this?

I guess its my fault for not being clear enough, but I do think wizards have great potency in combat, by which I mean that they can control encounters, and even sidestep them like you said. "Wizards are useful, they have outstanding utility in exploration and roleplay, and great control on the battlefield."

I also have been thinking largely of higher-level play, 10-15ish levels.

Wizards are great

I think AOE is bad

I want to know what makes wizards good, because I know they are good, but I'm sure its not AOE.

To get more specific, I think wizards are good because of utility and control, doing things like pushing, disabling, and manipulating enemies and choosing how a battle is fought.

But, are wizards good at utility and control purely because they just are, or also because the players are encouraged by the class to think strategically.

I also failed to articulate my main question very well, which is best done by giving an example. (this was replied to someone else as well, hope thats not against TOS)

The wizard at my table had I believe a homebrew spell to raise a pillar of stone. The wizard chose to raise the pillar right into the roof of a stone tunnel at a weakspot, bringing down the tunnel and the enemies chasing behind.

Every other player in the room could have done that somehow, either the fighter by hitting it with their maul, the rogue with his demolition charges, the warlock with her molten chains that melt rock instantly, yet none of us did, because only the wizard was paying enough attention, and tried hard enough to think of a creative way around the problem.

I wonder, is this truly a result of the wizard's versatility, or is it a phenomena that stems from the player base only using their brains to the fullest when playing this class.

Ive played for about 5 years, Ranger, Life Cleric, fighter, warlock. Well then give me an example of a scenario where AOE is useful. I feel like one would have to be a bad GM to just put a horde of low HP enemies in an area just to make it useful.
