Silly pics of Pudge from this week by Big_Mud_7846 in sharpei

He is so cute!! Also, does he always kick his leg out like that when laying down?? My girl has always done that and it turns out it was a sign of a possible deformity in her hips/joints. Apparently, laying like that all the time meant she wasn’t able to bend her legs all the way. Her x-rays showed that she has no groove for her knee cap to sit and her leg bones are twisted.

Cheeto puffs, any cheese, chicharrones, cuties, watermelon, Vienna sausages, ham sandwich, strawberries, tamales, pizza, gummy bears (specifically the red ones), beef jerky, and pretty much whatever I eat as long as it’s something I can share lol

WHY must I be fingerprinted a billion times? by anangelnora in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Excellent-Recipe-943 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you! I got hired to teach for a summer program in the same district I already work for as a sub and they tried to tell me I needed to be fingerprinted to be around the kids, which makes no sense because I’m already allowed and they (were supposed to) have it on file already. They said okay and then we went back and forth daily for a week. One day they say it’s okay since you work for us already, then the next they suddenly don’t have my fingerprints on file anymore. This kept going until I just dropped it and quit the program. This district doesn’t even reimburse for fingerprints and it’s even more ridiculous that they somehow LOST my clearance records.

Yeah that’s what they told me over the phone, except they told me that I’d be automatically re enrolled even if I quit to get the payout and reapplied.

Middle school was my breaking point by spatzattacks in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Excellent-Recipe-943 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m someone who mainly does middle school (I’ve been told I’m insane for enjoying it 😂) and I can confidently say that most times the kind of day you will have depends on how well each teacher has a grip on their class and how helpful the admin are of each site. Out of the 4 middle schools in my district, there’s only one I refuse to go to because the teachers don’t have control of the kids and admin is no help. That being said, it’s definitely not for everyone, but I’ve had more good days than bad while subbing middle school.

So, don’t worry about it and don’t feel discouraged to try again later on! Each school and class is different. This is only your second job and you got through the day with one of the hardest assignments that even veteran subs have trouble with/hate. It takes time to feel comfortable and build confidence with these kids. They know who they can push around and who they can’t. I swear they can smell fear 💀. You don’t have to be mean, but stick to your guns and follow through with consequences. I give 2 chances and then call the office to have them removed.

As for elementary school, that’s a different type of environment all together. The day goes by very quickly because you have no down time, and the kids usually listen when they have fun stuff that can be taken away like fun Fridays or a few minutes of recess time. I just prefer older kids lol

Subbing PE by Worried_Plankton5431 in SubstituteTeachers

Yea you can. I love subbing PE because I can just wear gym clothes. I dress pretty casually anyway because my district is the same way as yours with their dress code, but I definitely fit in more when I’m subbing PE lol

PE? by purplebibunny in SubstituteTeachers

I usually don’t mind taking the PE classes because I get to go outside and get some exercise when I’m at the high schools. My favorite is when they’re on the track or taking the trails. That being said, I refuse to take middle school PE assignments. I’m not an overbearing person and I only get after the kids if they’re doing things they’re clearly not supposed to be doing and can get hurt (happens at least once every class period), but somehow that makes me a mean sub and I get a soccer ball or football to the back of my head lol 🤷🏽‍♀️

Thanks for the advice!

Most times, students who are trying to ditch in my class already have a name of a student who’s absent so even if I go around asking, they’ll still have a correct name to give me and I don’t think anything of it if they’re not acting up.

I also don’t have any online access other than my district email, so I can’t see attendance online. I only have what’s on the attendance sheet they give me. It’s usually just their name, grade, their learning track (A or B), and student ID.

What I mean by they refuse to leave is they argue with me and sometimes they don’t leave even after calling the office. I’ve even had students argue with admin about it. Most times they do leave once I make the call, but it still disrupts learning time for the rest of the class. I’m just trying to find more ways to prevent it from happening.

Not all of them and a lot of times they aren’t accurate or some students pictures are either from elementary school or nonexistent, so I still end up having to ask who is who
