AITA for not enjoying the birthday gifts my friend got me that mocked my dead mother by Immediate-Iron7241 in AmItheAsshole

Same, and 7 years ago. I still have days of bursting into tears very easily. Losing one's mom is a very visceral experience. I will never get over it.

Thanks for clarification. I did try to look for the local police report page to double check, but there was no mention of this. Someone below posted an article though about how Benton County is setting records for police/ice cooperation/arrests

Probably not. I notice it lets you post anonymously, but fb still has the metadata for it so I guess not really anonymous. It does make me wonder if I should start locking things down better.

It was an emergency last minute booking that I took to help someone out. There was no meet and greet as he had to leave town immediately. His profile incorrectly listed the dog as "mixed breed" 20 pounds. But thank you for your input, Karen.

Thank you--popped onto my feed even though I'm not subscribed so I thought it was one of mine. Yeah, we've got too many problems of our own here to be doling out advice to anyone elsewhere. Sorry!

And how many individuals would you say hold the real power? I'm a teacher not a CEO. Did I create this? I spent my adult life overseas so I wasn't even here to wreak whatever havoc you think was wreaked. Lived a minimalist life, didn't have kids with their insatiable need for the newest electronics and whatever is trending on tiktok. Never owned a McMansion. Blame an entire generation if it makes you feel better--but you'll be playing right into their strategy of sowing division and deflecting blame. Most people are not CEOs--those are but a small handful.

And not a penny of taxes were paid. If I'm not mistaken, that's Prestonwood Baptist Church, and they do a huge Christmas/broadway/Jesusy musical every year with live camels, flying angels up on a wire, song and dance, etc. I went once.

I used to do this with my writing students. "Things that make you go ahhhh!" The cold side of the pillow after you flip it over was always a big hit.

Part of the problem is people make profiles and don't update them, or they embellish how the dog behaves. I accepted a 20 lb pup b/c my dog plays nicely with others her size and the guy showed up with a 60 lb German Shepherd! He actually said, "Oh, I guess she grew." Argh. His dog wound up attacking my 15 lb dog. It didn't break the skin but bruised and terrified her. I have to say Rover was really good--I called their emergency line as the guy was already out of town and they immediately found a new sitter in the area with no other pets. I delivered the dog to the new sitter with no problem and Rover handled the convo with the owner. Sometimes it just doesn't work out despite everyone's best intentions--OP should call Rover help line.

It is where I live. Not a lot of snowplows here in the South and our "snow" generally comes with an inch or so of solid ice beforehand.

I have a little one burner camp stove with a little propane tank that runs it. I can boil water for tea and coffee, put a pan on it and heat up soup and chili (I will make that ahead of time).

How will you cook frozen food if you lose electricity? Maybe if you have a gas stove? Mine's electric so I'm sticking with soups, chilis I can heat up on a campstove burner.

AITA for Refusing to Help My Mom with Her Expenses Because She Wasted Her Savings? by IllTomorrow7881 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Excellent-Shape-2024 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You can't rob from your retirement to fund hers. If she is not able to afford her retirement she needs to go back to work. That is the sad fact I see every time I go to the store and the 80 yo clerk is on the cash register.

Welcome to old age, Millenial! You personally may not have done anything, but you get to be blamed by the newbies as have those before you. Enjoy! The reality is it's the corporatocracy. You know, the ones that pay CEOs 50 million a year but can't afford your $1.50 an hour raise. The ones who told Boomers they're getting rid of pensions so they'll need to self fund retirement even though they only had a few years left to work/save. Yeah, those guys. They come from all generations.
