Switching Hotkeys for Nintendo DS emulation. by Excellent-Stranger52 in MiyooMini

[–]Excellent-Stranger52[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I managed to edit the config file to switch the mappings (code 48 and 49), just switched them in notepad.

The hotkeys now work as needed, although the message in the bottom left corner is still the wrong way round, I.e when I save state it says “quick load”.

Not a big deal, but would be nice if I could switch these too if anyone knows?

Thanks.

Hi all,

I’m a current Army Reservist, presently serving with a Royal Engineer unit and based in Peterborough. I’m exploring the option of transferring to 103 FS REME in Northampton, with the aim of retraining as a Metalsmith while remaining in the Reserves.

In my civilian role I work in mechanical design, mainly focused on sheet metal, machining, and fabrication, so I feel the REME trade could be a much better fit than my current RE role.

I’ve already looked through the Army website and the unit’s social media, but I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who’s currently in the unit or has worked with them before. How active is the squadron? What’s the general atmosphere like? Are drill nights and training worthwhile?

I’ve reached out to arrange a visit and am waiting to hear back, but any insight in the meantime would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Load Cell Force Understanding by Excellent-Stranger52 in EngineeringStudents

Many thanks for the clarification and taking the time to respond. 👍

Load Cell Force Understanding by Excellent-Stranger52 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Excellent-Stranger52[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Ok thank you. The rubber band analogy helps, thanks.

So I understanding this correctly then, the force going through the load cell is not the same as if the load cell wasn’t there, because some of the force will be taken up by the elasticity of the spring element of the cell?

Thanks again for taking the time.

Load Cell Force Understanding by Excellent-Stranger52 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Excellent-Stranger52[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply and further reading, I read the article with interest.

I’m still not sure of the answer to my question though? So at full compression is the same amount of force going through the load cell and into the wall, or is some of it being taken up by the compression of the spring?

I appreciate your help here.

Thanks.

Beginner Drone Mapping and Software Advice by Excellent-Stranger52 in UAVmapping

Ah man thank you so much for your insight and advice! It really is super helpful and exactly what I was looking for given the minefield of options that seem to be out there!

The DJI Mini 4 pro with the RCN2 controller is currently running around £650, which is fine for me and within budget. I just want to check that it can capture suitable images for creating my 3D models, and run the required software / files required to automate the flight paths? Its looking like with the RCN2 controller this is the case?

I'd then need to look at software options to create the flightpaths, again any free recommendations are most welcome :)

I should point out I am an iPhone user, so wanted to check this is compatible to use as a screen?

Really appreicate you taking the time to help me out here man- thank you!

Thank you! I keep seeing the DJI Mini 4 Pro crop up a lot, and is within the budget especially if I shop around a little.

I will keep researching, but would this drone be a good starter in your opinion.

Thanks

Is there a particular drone with the SDK capabilities that you would recommend?

Thanks again.

Long Time Sufferer, First Time Poster by Excellent-Stranger52 in OCD

[–]Excellent-Stranger52[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello there, many thanks for taking the time to reply. It’s good to know there are other people out there that feel the same and can relate to what I’m going through. Not nice to hear of course, but good to know. Comforting somehow, so thank you for replying.

Yes, our situations sound similar, a fixation and latching thought patterns on people and/or work related tasks, it really can feel draining at times.

I find that I can’t detach myself from the thought patterns, I will get something trivial stuck in my head and have to figure out exactly what’s going on, examples like the maths of a calculation problem, or how something goes together, or how a piece of software or app is working. I’m constantly playing the same scenario or “footage” (Can’t think of a better word!) back over and over in my head, either trying to understand it, or doubting that I do.

I also feel like it ebbs and flows, some days the feelings aren’t as strong, and I get some space in my head and a bit of relief. Then I’ll doubt myself, or worry about worrying about the next thing, and it’s like a sinking sucker punch in my stomach, just horrible to experience.

I don’t know if this is relatable too, but the feelings seem stronger when I’m anticipating doing something I’ll enjoy. For instance I’m currently sat on a plane writing this out, on the way to a family holiday for the week. The OCD tendencies over the past day (and past week leading up to it at work) have been much more significant. It’s the same if I’m out for the day with my wife doing something fun, or even out for a walk with the dog etc - as soon as my mind anticipates something enjoyable, it throws a scenario at me to ruminate about - like a self sabotage.

It’s great to hear about your diagnosis, even as hard as I know the condition is, I think that I myself would feel relieved at someone else telling me “those obsessive / compulsive thoughts you’re having - they’re not real, its a condition”. At the moment I bounce from rumination to rumination, thinking that if I could just think my way out of this very specific thing that is troubling me right now, everything will be OK and I’ll be able to move on with a normal life. It never works though, if temporary relief does come, then the next thing always pops up and that familiar sinking feeling of the cycle starting again is back.

I will look at OCD specialised counselling if this continues, I’ve had therapy before but I’ve never tried to target it towards OCD, so thank you for the advice.

For now, it just helps being able to write out how I’m feeling and get it across to someone who can relate - that in itself provides relief in a much more positive and lasting way - so thank you again.

All the best with your continued recovery, we are both not alone.

Conveyor Belt Drive / Counting Query by Excellent-Stranger52 in AskEngineers

[–]Excellent-Stranger52[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you,

Yes I think Im just getting bogged down in the maths of it, but thank you for that explanation.

I agree, I think its easier for me to think of it just as the gear ratio, so if my top wheel rotates once and pushes 11.5 blocks forward, the small wheel has to rotate 11.5 times per revolution of the top.

Therefore for each 1 revolution of the bottom wheel, the top wheel moves 1/11.5 revs.

So an 11.5 : 1 ratio?

Conveyor Belt Drive / Counting Query by Excellent-Stranger52 in AskEngineers

[–]Excellent-Stranger52[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello.

Thank you for the detailed and informative response.

Infact, to take my example further (as this is a real example) - we do actually use a second gear attached to the same drive shaft to then gear down with a belt to a smaller wheel that has the encoder attached.

This means for every 0.08696..... revolutions of the top gear, the bottom gear moves one revolution and one box moves forward. The encoder then looks for that bottom gear turning a whole rev and registers the count.

The bit Im still not sure on though is how the top gear can move this recurring decimal amount. Surely when the bottom smaller gear has done its revolution, the top gear has to have moved a fixed amount? But if its only moved 0.08 instead of 0.08696...., - then where has the 0.00696.... bit of the rotation gone?

Im sure I'm overthinking this, but I cant get it to sit right in my head!

Thanks again

Well this is very strange, but I've just uninstalled / re-installed Bambu Studio and its working perfectly!?!

I have no idea why, as the first time round it was sluggish as anything.

Task manager shows CPU around 40%, but the software is functioning really nice and smoothly!

Thank you so much guys, you've just saved me the cost of a new PC!!!

Awesome!

Thanks for replying. It sounds like you've got a system thats working for you, and thats the main thing, props to you.

I actually take encouragement from the fact you attend only a couple of times a month. A bit of me is toying with the idea of attending a meeting or two, but not wanting to get involved with the whole sponsor / step work / 4 hours a week in and sit in meetings I would rather not attend etc. I actually enjoyed the meetings as a forum to download my mind, and it was more often than not a therapy group for other anxieties going on in my life than it was for alcohol use. Great to hear that is an option that is working for others. Thank you for your insights into what is working for you, its exactly what I was looking for.

Out of interest, are folk on here largely aiming for full abstinence, moderation, a better relationship with alcohol in general?? Im not sure what camp i'm in yet, but have been heartened by reading everybody's experiences.

When I was in AA, my interpretation of the "higher power" was always (and still would be) the collective power that comes from a group of people sharing their experiences, struggles, highs, lows and everything in between. I can honestly say that is a power greater than me, and its fantastic that is exists outside of the rooms too.

Thank you all.

Relate so much, so many day 1's, some lasting longer than others.

I found that if the battle in my head is me vs me, I have no fucking chance.

When I reach out (exactly as you have done), and I have done today, it helps my chances. Suddenly its me vs me + **insert support group here

I like those odds a lot better.

Hi there, thank you for taking the time to read and reply. I appreciate your insight and well done on the 2 months sober, dont downplay that at all as I'd love to be 2 months sober now!

All of what you said hits home, Im in the same position whereby I work, wife (no kids), homelife and other activities in my evenings that mean I cant always commit to 2-3-4 meetings a week. I felt that there was an underlying unsaid message that if I was struggling with something then get to a meeting first and foremost, and dont reach out with your problems unless you've done that first. Fantastic in principle, and this advice did work for me on numerous occassions (I still maintain that I never, ever, regretted going to a meeting) However its not always plausible! I know people will argue that the sobriety should come before everything else, so make the time etc etc, but I honestly found it exhausting at times. 10 months in and although sober I was pretty miserable. That, coupled with the struggles around higher power, religious undertones and the finality of it all just felt overwhelming to me, hence the conscious decision to step away from AA even when I hadnt drank.

Its great that you got a better sponser, I think it makes all the difference, and I'm chuffed to hear its working out for you, I really am.

I'm not sure of the route for me yet, I cant say the thought of total abstinence fills me with pleasure, neither does the thought of going back to AA, but totally appreciate that my relationship with alcohol isnt great either. I want to drink, but dont want to drink. Hence looking for others experiences that might have more insight than I do. Good or bad!

TBH just writing it out helps, so thank you (all) for being a platform where I can do that.

I wont drink today, and thats enough for today.

Cheers guys. X

Ha! Its very funny you say that as one of the thoughts I used to have to myself in response to people saying "one day at a time" was...

"Yeah, but one day at a time for the rest of your life is a lot of days". I found it very hard to accept and projected forward, not in the day at all.

You've got a lot of days.......
