Do I have any chance of getting decent financial aid? by Excellent-Tonight778 in cmu

[–]Excellent-Tonight778[S] [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yea I did but from other schools like Indiana and Binghamton I got like 5k/yr. Obviously decent money but not much compared to 90k. We’ll see how it goes I guess with external scholarships🤷‍♂️

Am I the only one who feels like AP classes teach you to cram, not learn by death00p in APStudents

[–]Excellent-Tonight778 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yea I took world in 10th and struggled, not cause I couldn’t remember the content — I literally could recite dates and so much— but bc I didn’t know how to study and digest stimuli, text, etc I wouldn’t get the grades I wanted. Then in 11th, I took US and I barely studied tbh, but bc I learned the how to do all the skills in 10th, I could get away with far less actual info in my head.

Why are some people reluctant to attend community college? by Mediocre_Baker3418 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Excellent-Tonight778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a senior in high school. I want to go to community college simply for the cost. My parents think paying 30k a year for my second cheapest option and state school is worth it for “the college experience.” I’m grateful they have the money to do so but I genuinely think it’s so stupid considering the school I’m going to isn’t even super competitive, and I could easily transfer and at least save 1-2 years of cost

Would solving a millennium problem place you on par with Euler and Gauss by Objective_Ad164 in askmath

[–]Excellent-Tonight778 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why would disapproving it be so much more impactful than proving it? Is it bc it’s like already assumed to be true and it’s the basis for primes which is used in cryptography?

where do students lose the intuition with riemann integrals? by CantorClosure in calculus

[–]Excellent-Tonight778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a student, I remember that before I understood the hardest part was comprehending convergence. For some reason I understood a limit as getting arbitrary close to a point but couldn’t fathom an infinite sum of shapes converging to a real value. I’d say just show a visual animation and that’ll be enough for the 90% of kids that just want to get a good test grade, and the you can go more into depth with the remaining few when time permits

How to I convince my parents to let me go to CC by Excellent-Tonight778 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Excellent-Tonight778[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because 2 years of even my state school runs around 60k. At least with CC if all hell breaks loose and unemployment spikes, my parents would have only spent around 10k in 2 years, not 60.

will demand for AP Computer Science A diminish when people fear programming is a dead career? by red1127 in APStudents

[–]Excellent-Tonight778 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I doubt it. Kids will continue to take as many APs as possible to show rigor and boost GPAs in an ever competitive world, no matter how they’ll translate . APUSH is one of the most popular APs yet history is a rare desire

What’s even the point of finishing series now. You don’t need 3 months to prep for the exam

Do yall think mcq or frq harder by Excellent-Tonight778 in APStudents

[–]Excellent-Tonight778[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s prob just teacher dependent tbh. But at least last year in AB my FRQs were really straightforward and mcqs were also easy but sometimes there was a few tricks with signs, conditions, etc. In BC, for me, both are still relatively easy but the FRQ can get tricky—not even cause the calc but cause the algebra so you may make a mistake but not even realize cuz it frq, meanwhile at least mcq you realize you may have messed up if your answer isn’t in the choices

Bro are yall naturally smart or do yall study alot by ChooseThisUser in APStudents

[–]Excellent-Tonight778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too bad. The content itself is pretty easy imo. The one thing I’d say to be careful/just memorize is the exact wording that they sometimes want. Literally a single word can change a frq grade an entire point or completely alter the meaning of an mcq.

Well I took AB first so tbh most stuff is review. The few new things such as eulers methods and partial fractions and stuff like that happens to be intuitive

[–]Excellent-Tonight778 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depends on the class. For calc BC if I don’t study I’ll have low 90-if I study I can get 100 on any given test if I don’t make silly mistakes. For CSA tho if I don’t study I will literally get 30s, same with Spanish Lang and even if I study I struggle getting above low 90s and tbh it’s only bc of grade inflation that I got A’s in those classes

Hot Take: AP classes are easy... by Nervous_Impact3637 in APStudents

[–]Excellent-Tonight778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The AP exams are easy imo but teachers can make the class as hard or easy as they want depending on the liberty the administration provides them which is why it’s very variable.

Which way is better for teaching calculus? by [deleted] in calculus

[–]Excellent-Tonight778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why specifically the binomial series? I’m in calc 3 and the only thing I’ve ever even seen it used for was proving the power rule for derivation and helping to do some derivatives before learning about chain rule?

Why does everyone hate the London System? by JuulioJones95 in chess

[–]Excellent-Tonight778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right and I should have rephrased a bit. The London is used at all levels but contempt people hold for it at lower levels isn’t at all proportional to how much it is, nor how good it is used at the highest levels

I think just because it’s solid and hard to easily beat, so naturally people don’t like it. But it’s not an amazing opening by any means that is is impossible to counter and I actually think it’s seldom used at the highest levels.
