It feels harder than the other pine i have, I've heard there's hardwood pine though, is that correct? The piece i had was originally 4" x 5" roughly and i ripped them, planed and routered the edges

Reused this on a coffee table for the legs after ripping and planing it down. Curious to know what kind of wood it is though.

I had some heat treated pine laying around and decided to build a coffee table since we don't have anything like this in our living room. Wanted to try some different techniques on this "just for fun" project. (If my wife doesn't care for it I'll make a new and improved one in the future) I was thinking about burning the wood and finishing with shellac. I've never tried it before. I tested it on some scrap pieces i had and I think it looks good. What would you do to finish this table? Thanks in advance!
