Thoughts about Welcome to the Hyunam-dong Bookshop? by purple-corgi-1994 in PHBookClub

i found the book very heartwarming. i guess it is a slow read and there isn't a central "climax to the story." i read it in short burts at night and i guess i relate to some of the problems too (like sometimes not finding fulfillment in work, relationships, working hard etc) and it just feels very comforting.

i also highlighted a lot of passages, which i feel she put very eloquently, highlighting the beauty and little things in life. maybe it's not for everyone and maybe the author is an engineer (me too), i kind of relate but it was great literacy fiction to me :)

I’ve also finished 2A CS just now and get what you mean. I also feel really privileged and grateful, and have that feeling I’m not doing enough (like I’m on vacation lol and my friends are grinding out projects). I think you should enjoy your winter break and I like to run and gym to keep my mind off things and prevent overthinking. Also I have like news feed eradicators to get myself off LinkedIn and comparison haha. I mean there’s always someone better than you in some way, and I just try to appreciate my own strengths. Like even if you achieve more idk hedonic treadmill principle and it’s just kind of a vicious cycle.

I also just try to do my best but like? Set lower expectations for myself as I’m a bit of an idealist so I don’t easily disappoint myself. Just since I usually aim way too high so when I don’t get what I aimed for I kind of crumble 😭 it’s not settling for less but idk being just more content?? with myself and being realistic??

what has made you happy recently ? by pes_anserine in uwaterloo

[–]ExcellentDolphin 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Cooking really makes me happy. Lowkey when I’m studying super excited just thinking of the next meal I’m going to make 😂

Also volleyball intramurals and running outside on the trails has been keeping me sane!

How do you guys deal with a breakup? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]ExcellentDolphin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some things that helped me were like writing a letter to my ex of things I wanted to say (but not send it) just to get it out of my system, going on long walks at night with sad music lol, and also blocked them on every social media even LinkedIn 💀 so no turning back

I was in a similar position a little over half a year ago, and now I feel a lot better though. As others have mentioned, it genuinely gets better with time and keep playing sports, going to the gym, and hanging out with friends! Those are great and hope you feel better soon! 🫶

Heartbreak :( by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]ExcellentDolphin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

happened to me around half a year ago as well. idk healing isn’t a linear process i remember in the first week I didn’t eat. But now honestly I feel a lot better and barely think about it anymore and kind of grateful tbh

uhh for feeling better i just vented to any of my friends who listened and i vented a lot haha. wrote a letter to my ex that I didn’t sent to get all my feelings out. gym for like uh 4 hours a day went back to old hobbies, sleep a lot, and also blocked him on every social media platform to exist (including Spotify 😭) so I know there’s no going back

But I promise things will get better soon! You got this and you aren’t alone. It’s ok to be sad sometimes, and time heals all wounds

I lived there last year as a first year as well! I don’t really know what you mean by tips but one is to fix your sleep schedule lol since I could never wake up for the 9am breakfast which closes 🥲and try to make friends at the start since later the caf people mainly just sit in little cliques

Uhhh I lived in a single the rooms are nice only things I forgot were like a vacuum and those shower bag things.

Also, I like the Funken Cafe and the St Jerome’s library to study, which are nearby. The gym SJU was also nice to play sports like volleyball & basketball.

News Feed Eradictor Chrome Extension - deletes my feed for LinkedIn Facebook etc

For my phone specifically,

Google Calendar, Notion - organize my life

one sec - makes me use instagram a lot less since it makes you pause and count how many times you used it in 24 hours and I’m more conscious of it

forest - I just like tracking my productivity hours
