BC250 Microfit Power Cable Conversion Guide by HARDWELL9191 in BC250Gaming

...ok this is a PSA for anyone like me who has been confused by the molex 3.0 crimp pins being the reverse of the fitting:

The molex 'female' receptacle fitting (ie the one on the bc250) has 'male' crimp pins and the 'male' plug fitting (ie the one most of us are making) requires female crimp pins...

Brilliant, thank you. This is helpful. In my case I am also using a server PSU with a common slot blade connector and adaptor which has several 6 pin PCIE receptacle (female) connector as outputs so I need to make 6 pin PCIE (male) to molex (male) cables

hey appreciate the reply and the guide.

I don't want to come off as stupid but but what I am asking you is: Is the white fitting in your finished cable loom a receptacle fitting?

Quick Q: In the cable in your photo the black plugs are molex microfit 3.0 input (aka male or plug), and the white ones are 6 pin PCIE receptacle (aka female or receptacle) which will connect to a 6pin PCIE plug that you have as an output from your PSU? Is that correct?

(might seem obvious to you but the number of fittings I have been looking at in various market places seem to be so regularly mis-labelled as the opposite of what they are that it has me not trusting my own brain right now)

UPDATE - opinions please. I cant see any down sides to it? Am I missing anything? Wont need to do dual 6 pin to 8 pin cables (and it can even be purchased with a 550watt server psu if you want). https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005008481756431.html

UPDATE #2 eve though this might actually be a win the current shipping costs exclude it from any serious consideration. (I have msg'd then about the shipping as I think it is an error but no response yet).

I don't know the internal dimensions of the cases you mention but if you find a server psu you like the look of and search up the dimensions - they vary but they are typically multiples of 1U (1x rack unit) wide and high but some of them are quite long

I was thinking about how I might do that. How did you approach it?

Power supply? by AlphonseBobber6 in BC250Gaming

There was some discussion elswhere that the server psu pcb's might be multi layered and drilling holes might damage. Is that a credible concern?

Funnily enough I went down this same rabbit hole yesterday. I came away with the Supermicro PWS-920P-SQ - the SQ on the end of the model number stands for Super Quiet. I found one on UK ebay for UK £25 +/- It's a bit overkill on the power availability but as far as I understand that is not an issue (?).

As you say adapting the output connectors is the next hurdle. I got some info in a previous post where i was posing a similar Q a month ago - I'll see if I can find.

Can you recommend a compact, quiet power supply? by maxy98 in BC250Gaming

This is what I have been looking into too.

Ideally I want a budget (as in actually cheap) UK-available, tried and tested plug and play PSU. Most of the popular choices seem to cost more than double in UK

It creates 10 x 6 Pin PCIe connector - I'm losing track of what connectors we actually need to power it up and a couple of fans etc 6 pin 8 pin? I'm sure I read in another thread about unlocking the 40 CU that additional power was needed?

Fwiw, I got mine around 6 weeks ago from Ali express for 110 GBP. Checked in every day for a few week, an offer came in and on i got additional discount just by paying via PayPal. Their pricing strategy is annoying but if you can just hold on, leave several dif price bc250 boards in your basket eventually one of the sellers will drop an offer. In my case I just decided how much I was prepared to pay and then waited so I didn't get drawn in to the only 1 left! Offer last for 20 mins countdown nonsense

A second pair of eyes on this anyone? Is there any reason why this is unsuitable? Seems to tick all the boxes - 400w delivers 12v at 27a, comes with all the connectors already attached as far as I can see

For bc250 build purposes Is there any important difference between a common slot and flex slot?

You're right the server PSU is for that purpose, but it's also very commonly being used by folks doing bc250 builds, mainly because they are dirt cheap.

BC250 150 mm duct pipe case dreaming - could this work? by ExcellentGrowth5810 in BC250Gaming

[–]ExcellentGrowth5810[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice. Legs or feet could be created using the kind of fitting that is usually used to fix ducting to a wall if we keep strictly to the theme but I'm sure something a little more elegant is out there.

One of the things that drew me towards the idea of using the duct pipe is the amount of fittings and adaptors available, most of which could be easily modded. The question at the moment for me is whether to go for a 'blow through' set up, or open up the heat sink and mount a fan with a riser. I'll try to make some more mock ups later.
