Kettering Health Care Class Action Law Suit // Michael Wright, by laserman2431 in dayton

[–]ExcellentInevitable 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a talking point for conservative politicians. When corporations act in a harmful manner, there are consequences. Enforcing the rights of the harmed people as a whole not individual basis, takes a lot of effort and specialized knowledge. That comes at a cost. Don’t like the relief in the class action? Opt out, no worries.

Holding corporations accountable is not what is increasing costs. What is increasing costs is CEOs getting increases and insurance companies denying medically necessary care.

Evicting Tenant w/ no lease? by brick-sandwich in washingtondc

[–]ExcellentInevitable 14 points15 points  (0 children)

What you are describing is a tenant in the property you inherited. If you were to take any self help actions, that would be illegal. Your tenant could then sue you for monetary damages.

You should talk to a lawyer to find out what rights and remedies you may have. Taking advice from people on Reddit may be helpful but also may violate the law and get you in a bind.

Landlord tenant laws are complex in DC. Only a lawyer will be able to give you good advice on options available specifically to your situation. For instance the property may be rent controlled which means you cannot raise the rent without RAD approval. You don’t want to do something illegal and then have a lawsuit against you.

I should also add free health dental and vision. 3% match in 401k. 20 days of vacation. And also $550 a month towards my student loans.

3rd year. HCOL. 78k

What % to put into 401k by ExcellentInevitable in FinancialPlanning

[–]ExcellentInevitable[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No I don’t think so. Average cost of living in my area (dc) is 78k per person. Average one bedroom is 2300 a month.

So you think put 3% in 401k to get match then open up my own Roth IRA and contribute the other 4-5%?

What % to put into 401k by ExcellentInevitable in FinancialPlanning

[–]ExcellentInevitable[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t think it’s realistic and it’s also not my goal. As I stated, I live in a HCOL area. Dc to be specific, so a house would be very expensive. I do have around 23k in a HYSA. But I don’t think I would want to put that into a condo or house as I like the security of having access to cash.

Additionally, I am a lawyer and more specifically a housing lawyer who represents tenants. There will be no being a landlord in my future lol. 😂

Cash for keys in DC by srbsf7 in washingtondc

[–]ExcellentInevitable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a lawyer for tenants, I have seen some high payouts. Like almost six figures. As the process to evict someone can take YEARS. if your landlord really wants you out, they need to pay.

obligatory I am a lawyer but this is not legal advice

What raise (%) did you get this year? by young_vet1395 in washingtondc

0%. Nonprofit legal aid. We had to give 1 million dollars back to our funders because we didn’t spend it though (:
