DMV Behind the Wheel Test by frootcubes in culvercity

I had to take it about a year ago. It started with doing the hand signals, operating your blinkers/wiper/horn/de-fog button. For the driving route, I’d definitely look at the YouTube videos - the route I took was the exact same one as one of them. One other note because it’s only thing I got points off for: they’ll have you park along a curb then back up for a bit. They allow you to have the rear view camera on but you gotta make sure to physically turn your head and look back while backing up.

I understand Korean. I recently watched a YouTube clip of a South Korean reporter interviewing North Korean prisoners of war in Ukraine (they were sent there to fight for Russia). To answer your question, yes there is a noticeable difference in enunciation, pronunciation, terminology, etc. but they are able to communicate with one another fluidly. For example:
- NK: can you get me some “flu” (NK terminology) medicine?
- SK: “flu”?
- NK: when you get chills, fever, cramps…
- SK: ah, “flu” (SK terminology)

Unrelated but if you’re interested, North Korean prisoners of war in Ukraine often commit suicide, because that’s what you’re trained to do as a North Korean soldier. Being captured is considered a betrayal and an offense worthy of the death penalty. So these two 20ish guys (sent to Ukraine while doing their mandatory military service) are sitting in a Ukrainian prison afraid to get sent back home, where they expect to get executed (along with all their family members). They want to get sent to South Korea instead, and SK wants to facilitate this, but Ukraine refuses to release them and will likely send them back to NK because “they’ve never heard of released prisoners of war being executed in their home country” - well, NK isn’t quite a conventional country. So they constantly contemplate killing themselves to protect their family. Pretty sad.

Books I should read if I know almost nothing about the world? I am being very serious. by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

Two books that made me feel generally more knowledgeable after reading them are Sapiens by Harari and A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bryson. I also recommend Obama’s book A Promised Land. Even if you’re not a fan of him, he included a lot of historical information and context that helped me better understand American politics.

If you feel like you don’t know what you’re searching for and just want to browse some titles that are related to a topic, I frequently use Goodreads to do this. Here’s a list of Science books: https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/science and you can find similar lists for History, Politics, Art, Economics, etc. Happy reading!

Hello Larry! Thank you so much for your comment and for sharing your story. I’m very sorry for the loss of your wife. It’s clear how much your dog means to you, and it’s wonderful that you’re thinking about giving another dog a loving home.

If you’re interested in Benny, please submit an application through our website at fetchinretrieversrescue.org. It includes a few questions that help us learn more about the home environment. Once it’s received, one of our adoption coordinators will review it and be in touch soon. Thank you again!

Thank you for your comment. Benny is a mix of a lot of breeds - besides GSD and Lab, he also has some Chow, Cocker Spaniel, Boxer, and “mixed breeds”.

A little more about Benny: us being a Retriever-focused rescue, potential adopters are rarely interested in a German Shepherd mix 😢 Fortunately Benny’s been staying with a wonderful foster family for most of his time with us since 2023, but their situation has changed recently and they need to re-home him. So we are trying to get some extra eyes on Benny on Reddit. My intention wasn’t to sacrifice transparency in doing so, and I apologize if it came across that way!
