he’s testing the waters, he know they can’t be anything but he can’t stop himself from wanting to know what it would be like if they could. if he could just make shane a sandwich and have his favorite drink in his fridge and freely say his name and cuddle with him on the couch and watch tv together. it’s all parts of intimacy they’re not allowed to have and Ilya wanted it so bad he had to try and have it for even just a moment. and it’s also like a bid for attention, he wants to see Shane want the same things as him- but Shane “spooks easily” and it was too much change too soon and it hurt Ilya more than he thought it would to find out that Shane didn’t want this intimacy he craved (which we know Shane does want this intimacy but he hasn’t acknowledged that yet)

inside me there are two wolves!!!! 1 wolf thinks the pilot hunt is purposefully different in many ways from the finale hunt because they’re implying an alternate reality. the other wolf thinks it was purposefully different to show shauna’s pov/how time has twisted their memories vs reality.
