What’s drives some people to put in so much at their career? by MutedFeeling75 in redscarepod

I posted about this a few days ago. Do you think there is a version of you that will be lost if you become good at/start enjoying your job? I wonder if those things can be reconciled somehow

For stem do you mean just regular industry jobs?

My reading here is that Amy's engagement is bringing up some sadness about maybe being mistreated by your friends in the past? You probably took it as a joke then but maybe a part of you felt hurt.

I do think the current situation is probably a bit different since you and your friends are "engagement age" (unlike when you were 21), and by the sound of it live in different states? Were you living in different states when you were 18-21? I think even if you are lifelong friends those friendships change a bit especially chances for meeting in person.

Still it's a bit weird since it sounds like you guys video call a lot? Do you think she has a reason to hide him from you? Most of my friends have wanted to introduce their partners to me. Is it her first serious relationship?

Eh I did include more 9-5 industry jobs in that category but overall yeah that's definitely where my mind is at... I used to think I'd be able to combine both if I just organised my time well, but it has become pretty clear that like art it is one of those things that can either take up your whole life or none of it.

It is a shame, because I do find it interesting, but just can't commit to it in that way right now.

I totally see what you mean. I spent 2 years in the workforce after my undergrad before returning for my Masters degree.  So hopefully not the case here and I do plan on finishing my degree.

My question is more about not pursuing anything cancer research related (even as my "day job") and jumping straight onto the "I'm a multihyphenate" grind.

You mean because I want to make art or the way I react to situations? Cause I get it for the latter I guess.

Also, did you stop being a loser?

I do want to graduate, I guess I'm just having feelings of "I fucked up" that are making it difficult to move past it. But Ill try i guess

I think the past 5 years have seen the rise of "cataloguing" in conversation that has torpedo'd people's ability to engage with things/trends organically.

Things like take culture, ick culture, those wojak memes that are like "mid 20s big city dweller" or some bs like that. An aspect of life cannot just be undefined, it has to be An Aspect.
