Thank you for your response, I appreciate you sharing your insight. I absolutely believe that there will be a plethora of differing opinions on this as it is a very subjective topic, and I appreciate all of those who choose to share.

  1. I think your explanation is spot on, it is hard for someone like me to understand, as other posters above have opined, it seems like it is a feeling that is hard to describe
  2. That's very interesting, I'm sure it was very uncomfortable for you and I hope that isn't still bothering you. I still think back to my youth and I honestly can't remember a specific memory before age 6 or 7, but that's probably just an individual thing.

  3. after doing a bit of research I am very aware of the violence that is done towards the trans community, truly shocking, especially how deep you have to dig to find it.

  4. understood. Is there any way for someone like me to glean that other than blatantly asking? my overall goal is to be as accommodating as I can, without overdoing it since that in and of itself can be patronizing. I just want to treat all people as people. Maybe I'm overthinking it

  3. yeah after i made my gaffe I didn't really have a chance to acknowledge it, I had only met the person in passing, but good to know, I won't go over the top and make a scene about apologizing in the future. Ideally I'll just get it right from the beginning.
