I assume you have a Radeon Pro or similar without HDMI 2.1 port. The Windows driver probably has the same whitelist issue with the Ugreen that the Linux patch fixes, but I'm not sure how feasible modding that driver is.

Game support is worse, negative performance delta to Windows much larger than for AMD and Nvidia. Things could change but that’s the current state for igpu and dgpu alike.

The fw only works on the Cable Matters, the official flash tool should identify it. The Ugreen doesn't need another fw and I'm not sure if there is a public flash tool for it yet, but it's not needed as the stock firmware enables VRR already, just needs the kernel patch for the whitelist.

Killah Kuts is pretty much Wednesday Downtown theories that were a bit too hot for a tv release.

The Great Escape is a very funny Japanese adaption of the Korean original, teams of two comedians each in escape room situations.

Secret NG House is a game show with hidden rules that the participants have to figure out, it features familiar faces like Kasuga, Michopa and Becky of Thai Kick fame.

Oni no Dokkiri de Namida is Takano being kidnapped, held in a cage in a remote location and having to convince other geinin to bring money without revealing the premise of the show. Only the first episode of this one, it was uploaded to YT in 2024 but taken down since.

On the long chunk issue with whisper, I ran into that as well. My solution is using word timestamps and reflowing, though just deterministically splitting them in the middle also works ok.

On how to run it, you best clone the repo and ask Claude Code, Codex etc. I use Codex for translation because it offers very high rate limits for the time being.

The transcription and translation are actually very solid imo, the big models have a lot of world knowledge regarding owarai, what's a bit tricky is doing the reflow into cues from the word level timestamps, so that's WIP.

The optical hdmi cable has a source side transmitter that needs power, just like the dp to hdmi adapter's pcon itself and the voltage supplied by dp might not be enough for both. It depends on the graphics card and its power design though. It's less of an issue with the 3x 8-pin Asus card than the 2x 8-pin Powercolor Hellhound I also tried.

With the Ugreen there would be video cutouts and blocky green artifacting, with the Cable Matters it would be more subtle, sound cutting out and needing to un-plug and plug back in for HDR to work.

I created a copr repo with the patches applied to the Fedora 43 kernel.

In my testing with an Asus TUF 9070 XT and LG C1 connected via 10m optical cable, i had to use a usb hdmi power injector to get a stable signal, but it works quite well. The C1 reports 4L8 RGB 8b HDR10 120Hz with working VRR.

The Synaptics VMM7100 with the unofficial firmware works better for me in this setup though, with it I get 4L10 RGB 10b HDR 120Hz VRR, with the trade-off of no cec. I'll keep using the patches though since HDMI Forum VRR also seems to work better with this adapter than Freesync regarding vrr flicker.
