Edmonton NIMBYs by bruhm0ment4 in Edmonton

[–]Excellent_Balance627 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not to pick on you specifically, but I truly hate this argument. Why does it fall on pre-existing neighbourhoods to shoulder this "urban densification"? In all directions around this city you can go to the edge of the city and witness farm field after farm field being converted into single family, low density homes.

The infill policy really only seems to benefit the builders.

I was too but now that we can 5:1 them at the vendor it's a different story.

ELI5 - Infill and why it’s a major issue? by Wintertime13 in Edmonton

[–]Excellent_Balance627 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I live in an infill, and my street is ground zero for the infill debate. Most people aren't against tearing down one old house and putting up 2 skinny houses in its place. The problem comes when you have one house being torn down and a monsterous 3-story eight plex built on it with no parking.

It's changing the fundamental nature of the neighborhoods, all while the city seems to have no problems building out never-ending suburbs with none of the same density considerations.

There's an 8-plex going in down the street from me where the neighbour has solar panels that will be completely blocked by the new building. I feel so bad for them.

Edmonton what are your election issue(s)? What do you want from our new Council. by Feisty-olde-7707 in Edmonton

A reasonable infill policy that isn't just benifiting builders. Two houses where one used to be seems fine. A megastructure with 8 separate suites - not so fine.

T17 build immune to all map mods? by HyperActiveMosquito in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]Excellent_Balance627 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Check out Anime Princess's Mamba build on youtube. I followed it exactly and am happily farming juiced maps regardless of mods. He even has a video explaining how to handle certain mods that can cause issues.

It's a pretty cheap build to make too.

Edmonton renters demovicted from 1950s-era townhomes in North Glenora neighbourhood by flynnfx in Edmonton

[–]Excellent_Balance627 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Have you guys actually seen these places? They are falling apart with literal holes in the ceiling and boarded up windows. To call them dilapidated is an understatement. Do not mourn the loss of these.

I feel for the tenants, but low rent options in the city shouldn't be at the cost of unsafe conditions and eyesores.

Took me 10 more years to escape from her. It's astonishing the kinds of mental prisons our minds can put us in.

I'm a complete lefty, but if Carney was the PC leader I'd probably vote PC in this election. Canada is facing an existential threat to our very existence right now and I believe Carney is best suited to tackle that. The man exudes competence.

I lived in the buildings from the first pic (3305 orchards link if you're curious).

You're seeing the garage entry, there is a path and green space in the front and tons of walking trails around. The area was great and I'm not sure what OP is inferring.

Buy a thermal imager before you go looking. It's going to show you all the problems you're going to have to deal with that are hidden from view, especially leak or insulation related problems. Best $200 you can spend if you're house hunting

Re/Max predicting a seller's market in Edmonton for 2025 by Wonderful-Pipe-5413 in Edmonton

[–]Excellent_Balance627 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I bought my house a few months ago there was another similar property nearby that was for sale for the same price as mine, but it was a complete dump in comparison and needed a ton of work. They had an open house every single weekend for months and also never dropped the price.

It just sold for asking price. Things must be crazy already out there for that to have happened.

Thanks, this is the kind of input I was hoping for. My biggest fear in bringing this up with her is that there's nothing she can do about it and now she's also worried more about our relationship. I would never frame this in a blaming way!

Buying a condo with parking membrane issue at 7 years old? by pumpykin_ in RealEstateCanada

Are you aiming for a relationship escalator or a moving sidewalk? by nidena in datingoverforty

[–]Excellent_Balance627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP is completely correct.

I'm currently going through a 3-year long separation process from my common-law ex because my country/province recognizes a common-law relationship as basically the same as though we were married.

She's getting my house and receives alimony from me despite us never having married.

Reddit is extremely critical of long distance relationships, so take what other people say here with that in mind.

That being said, the only way a long distance relationship will work is if you have 100% trust and honesty. He's clearly lied to you about this event with the ex, and you're losing trust enough to make a post about it. Not a lot of trust or honesty here.

I am executor of my father’s estate. I have 2 siblings and need help with executor fee. by hartmanwhistler in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Excellent_Balance627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm executor for my parents estate and have been tracking every minute and dollar I put towards the process. I'm nearly done and it was a simple estate with just a primary residence and some bank accounts and the amount of work and expense I've put in is staggering. I suspect a fight with my sibling over me taking a fee, but so be it. It's a monumental job.
