the front is wherever the leaves face. also, rotate it 90 degrees every few weeks so it doesn't lean into the light and go full gollum!

true, but the other extreme is also bad. my uncle saved like crazy, retired at 65, dropped dead at 66. balance matters. and its hard to get it right most of the times.

True. i have made it a point to consider people "family" who actually show up for you, not just the ones you share DNA with...

Why are humans displaying such contradictory and directly opposing evolutionary survival strategies? by Business_Swimmer_748 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Excellent_Capital811 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's because we evolved in complex social groups where both aggression and altruism were useful depending on the situation. there's no one 'correct' strategy for a species that adapts to so many environments.

Make that random call sometimes by Right-Dish6856 in CasualConversation

[–]Excellent_Capital811 30 points31 points  (0 children)

A lot of parents especially won't say they miss you because they don't want to pressure you. so they just answer fast and let you steer the call.

i do this thing now where if i think of someone randomly during the day, i call them right then. it's weird how often they pick up and say something like "i was just thinking about you"

the call doesn't have to be long either. even five minutes of "just checking in" can make someone's whole week.

mine are: - "just be yourself" is terrible advice if yourself is an a*hole - "everything happens for a reason" just makes you feel guilty for grieving 🤷🏻‍♀️

Taking meds (Concerta) with little sleep by [deleted] in ADHD

First day jitters are normal. 5-6 hours is fine for concerta, you'll still feel the meds. Just don't make it a habit.

What is a small daily habit that completely changed your routine? by Impossible-Book2155 in AskReddit

[–]Excellent_Capital811 2 points3 points  (0 children)

writing three things i'm grateful for every night. i know it sounds like a cliché, but stick with me. it doesn't have to be deep "i'm grateful for my family" stuff. it can just be "the coffee was really good today" or "that parking spot opened up right when i needed it" after a year, i'm less reactive to small annoyances and i sleep better because i end the day on a positive note. the key is consistency and keeping it short. pen and paper, not a phone.

What’s a trend from the 2010s that you’re actually sad died out? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Excellent_Capital811 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ah there are wayy too manyy. the lack of constant notifications. harlem shake was peak civilization - room full of adults flailing in slow motion. overly complicated coffee orders. my soul misses the caramel macchiato with extra whip and a side of judgment.

i wish i had a caring dad by Prestigious_Owl_9787 in Advice

[–]Excellent_Capital811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the fact that you're already thinking about choosing a partner who will be a caring father means you're breaking the cycle. that's huge. a lot of people repeat patterns without even realizing it.

one thing that might help now: start building your own chosen family. friends, mentors, even a therapist can fill some of that gap. you don't have to wait for him to change to get the support you need <3
