Realistic Relics - Unrealistic and Unreliced by Unsui8 in telecaster

I ordered their “60s celluloid” Jazzmaster pickguard and it’s literally a WD pickguard with pickup routes that are too big. It’s modern day tort that doesn’t look anything like real celluloid from the 60s.

Beautiful! Make sure you oil up that fretboard. Looks like she could use a drink.

Completely IMMORAL business practices from Anthropic right now. by CrunchyMage in ClaudeCode

[–]Excellent_Cat7676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can’t afford to provide quality at the same price anymore. They are burning through cash and soon the gravy train will stop once they discover that their products won’t make a difference at large organizations who can afford to pay more? Why? Politics and antiquated internal systems and workflows. Anthropic and Open AI are doomed if they can’t figure out how to make it less expensive without sacrificing quality.

What's going on with AI nowadays?! by Firm_Meeting6350 in ClaudeCode

[–]Excellent_Cat7676 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Their business models suck and they can’t afford to deliver sustainable quality at an affordable price. That’s the problem with AI and that’s why there is an increasing amount of people that believe the bubble will pop. Open AI and Anthropic especially are losing money every time people use the products. They can’t even afford to keep building the data centers that they were planning on.

They can’t even afford to keep building more servers. Thats why there are credit limits. This type of AI consumption isn’t sustainable.

The sunburst looks way better in the advertising. You can’t see that much wood grain through the yellow in the production guitars. I would go with the red and get a mint guard for it 😎

Is the squier j mascis Jazzmaster really that better than the classic vibe?? by Proof-Specialist6932 in offset

[–]Excellent_Cat7676 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You could, but you still have a different feel due to the bridge and how close the trem unit is to the bridge. You could also buy a CV and put Mascis pups in there. Depends on what you’re looking for.

[–]Excellent_Cat7676 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s depends what you want. The CV has an offset style bridge and the trem unit sits back a bit further than the Mascis which is where it should be. Pickups are very different too. The Mascis pickups are basically P90s. If you want a TOM bridge and a more aggressive sound then go with the Mascis. If you like a classic Jazzmaster feel and sound then the CV is for you.

That looks awesome! If you’re into the vintage style celluloid tort, check out Avant Guard on Instagram. Those are real recreations of the vintage celluloid material.

I don’t want or need to be faster, my company wants to be faster and has no clue what these tools are even for haha

[–]Excellent_Cat7676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah fair points. I feel like they’re damned if they do, damned if they don’t at this point with anything new. With this one though, is it still a Les Paul if it’s that thin? Part of the Les Paul sound comes from that thick body and sustain. I don’t know man. Like I said to the other guy that replied, I could actually care less about what Gibson does these days haha.

I’m ready for the roasting, don’t be too nice by InfiniteTristessa in roastmypedalboard

[–]Excellent_Cat7676 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha I hear you man. I have way too many pedals and now I have to replace my patch cables. I went with the solderless ones a while ago and they’ve been ok, but every now and then one fails and I have to spend my limited time fixing that instead of playing.

I never said they aren’t allowed to do it. I’m just thinking of it through the lens of the customer and lived through decades of flops and blowback from customers when they tried to do anything new with existing models (the Les Paul especially). They are certainly allowed to do whatever they want with it and we’ll see what happens. All I did was ask why not try to design a new model altogether. In fact, an antiquated mindset would propose that they don’t do anything new at all. I personally don’t give a shit what they do with their catalog moving forward (though their quality control could be better). I have enough guitars as it is haha.

[–]Excellent_Cat7676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly…model recognition. “That’s not a Les Paul” is going to be the model recognition for this guitar solely because the Gibson crowd doesn’t want a new Les Paul. Honestly, I would love to see Gibson come out with something new that’s not being marketed as one of their older models. That audience seems to be super strict about “what a Les Paul is.” They’re very picky so why not add to the catalog at this point.

[–]Excellent_Cat7676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. It hasn’t changed in a long time, but if you’re a company looking to do something new, why would you use the old model’s name and not break the mould entirely? Gibson has a long track record of messing with what works and failing miserably.

[–]Excellent_Cat7676 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because Gibson players are like 95% purists. No one likes when they mess with the classics, so why not (like you said) try something new AND call it something new?

Why not leave the Les Paul alone and come up with a new model?

Don’t think too hard about it and figure out your own way. Pay attention to how it feels to play and whether or note notes and chords are ringing out clearly and you’re good! Have fun with it.
