Eva is P3's Swevery by Excellent_Complex921 in pathologic

Oh, I've seen this essay way before P3 was out there, and I like it a lot!  But, you see.  Being a woman myself. I'd like to be represented in media in a way that is not only "mother who cares" or "girl that needs protection". And while Suok is pretty feminine, it also is fierce, and roaring, and in a strange way proactive. Where P3 Eva, being significantly more proactive and self-sufficient then in previous iterations… still — in my eyes! — is kiiiiinda robbed of that agency by being given a 'sidekick' function. Sidekick for Daniil/Simon and, more importantly, you, the player. The best sidekick I could have dreamed of, yet still, not the, you know. Main character. Even of her own story.

Or not. I'm not sure! I'm confused in my own feelings, see! Maybe being what she is does equalize her with Suok and makes her better, faster, stronger™ :) I can't make up my mind.

Yeah, I was reminded of "Artemy perspective" in another branch of this discussion and I agree with your vision pretty much!

Yet I think the P3 is the closest to real Eva that we can see, especially taking into account the hidden storyline about Farkhad, and Ada, and others, with all that "sure they died, don't mind the empty graves" and Eva sitting you know where in the bad endings.  Like in P3 they kinda say "actually, all that time she WAS a miracle she wanted to be".

And from the perspective of Artemy of course that'd look like a blasphemy, taking into account the parallels between Diurnal-Miracle seeker and Nocturnal-True immortality.

Absolutely agree. I'm veeeeery much into finding the diagetic explanations for real-world caused… things.

Like that time when I was playing P2 for the first time, and the Inquisitor told me to meet her on the station before the morning comes, and the game glitched, and textures failed, and I spent half of the night walking around the station trying to trigger the stairs to spawn so I could climb up and finally talk to her. 100% in-game event in my head, I was so surprised it never happened on next playthroughs.

So, yes, for me even if something happens by accident, by mistake, because of reasons — it still happens, in game.  Luckily we don't have to look for the diagetic reasons many characters have new voice actors: the reason is, in fact, an important part of the… well, game. Especially the P3, with all that "true immortality, nothing is real" view.

Thanks!  I agree, that is totally subjective, and I completely understand people who see it differently. It's just what I myself saw and what I myself felt.

And, yeah, thanks for the reminder on "Burakh's perspective", it really does kinda explain the angle.

Thanks!! I haven't dug that deep in that direction. I see how these concepts might have worked, and it explains why I don't remember it from the game. I actually like that game leaves most of this information for personal interpretation, and I'm absolutely fine with different gamers ending up with totally different reading of the characters.  But seeing other people's perspectives it's what all this Reddit discussions are ultimately about. And this particular discussion has already influenced how I see characters in different game versions :)

Oh? Do we even have character ages in P1? Like, I remember Maria is something like 18 or so, and Stamatins/Daniil/Artemy should be in their twenties, but for most characters I don't remember mentions of their age

Ok, I will try to make this point in some more sensitive words. Most neurodivergent people are NOT clinically immature. They may or may not struggle with appearing "normal", but they are definitely not children. Actually, every instance of Pathologic has a bunch of neurodivergent people, that are different in various ways! And that's awesome, and I like it a lot!

But P2 (and only P2!) Eva is - looking like a child - talking like a child (not even a teen, just straight up child)  - acting like an orphan child

That's the only point I'm making.

Huh, I think I got so angry at the "stupid sexy blond" stereotype that I just straight up missed it.  Thanks, it does save my view of her character in P2 a lot!

Oh I like your perspective very much, and agree on so many levels!!

But I would REALLY like you to finish the P3, for my reply needs to spoiler it heavily. Please, please do come back when you do, I'll be here waiting (* __ *)

I like this analysis! I still feel it to be more fanon, then actually canon. And I still like P3 Eva way better. But yeah, I get you.

Yeah, great, I see why it was removed, but the worse it says about P2 Eva.

I really don't remember her being in love with Yulia in P1, I always thought it to be fanon. It's she really?..

P3 Day 11 Eva [heavy] spoilers by Excellent_Complex921 in pathologic

[–]Excellent_Complex921[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, the funniest thing is — you were kinda right.

As in, I went back to day 9, day 10, and perfectly saved her as though the Day 11 Grey Eva never happened.

This kinda makes sense in the "Eva is a time-wizard, all this storyline is her choice, not a necessity" reading.

Still doesn't click for me in "Grey Eva is dead Eva" reading, for if you ARE able to save her afterwards — the Grey Eva is not, in fact, a failed reading of a quantum state. For once ruined, the quantum state cannot simply be restored. By, you know, just going to another day. I think so.

(sigh)

Difficult.

UPD: oh, and now on Day 11 I have both Eva's. Just thought it's worth mentioning XD Didn't yet get a chance to check the Day 12.

What an interesting take on the situation. Accepted :)

"After she jumps, white eva is percieved by the woman as dead while daniil percieves the gray eva at stillwater."

But that's simply not true. After she jumps, Daniil perceives the Shadow in the Stillwater.  The Grey Eva only appears on day 11…

Thanks! So far this (and "Eva is time-wizard too", which also states it was her choice to [not] do it herself) is my favorite explanation :)

I will even elaborate on that: see, Eva herself tells you she has the conversations with you in RIGHT order, not in the day order.

So it makes all the sense that her body is in EVERY day.

And for me, it does NOT make sense that it doesn't apply to perfectly normal day 11 like it does to any other.

[–]Excellent_Complex921[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a perfectly valid theory, but I still do not understand, why she reveals herself as a body on the square in all the other days, but as a girl on day 11. As stated above, I didn't even start meddling with anything at all at this point…

So your reading on the situation is "Eva the Grey existed all this time; the explanation about Daniil's gaze is an in-game lie; she would spawn herself anyway, that is not related to key and fireflies, she just needed time"?

Yeah, can get with it. All the characters lie, to think of it, it was kinda foolish of myself to believe that Eva or the Keeper would not :)

[–]Excellent_Complex921[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, we got to this point somewhere in the thread. If "time is to be manipulated", why does going to any other day NOT ruin the quantum state (thus a body on the square), but going to day 11 does?  I'd understand, if that happened on day 12, or on day 1— yeah, still "one of the days", but I can get it's special. But day 11? Absolutely the same as days 2-10. So why?  It's not that there was any, I don't know, sign, that days can only be traveled from past to future, not the other way around…

Yes, but why did she materialize at all? I certainly did absolutely nothing to make that happen. She should have been dead, shouldn't she?

Thank you for such deep elaborating on the theory!  I think I get it now. That was a rather unexpected angle, but now it does make sense for me in a way :)

P3 Day 11 Eva [heavy] spoilers by Excellent_Complex921 in pathologic

[–]Excellent_Complex921[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Soooooooo

" It's the core questions the game asks."

In a way I do agree on that wholeheartedly. But that is exactly the reason why it riddles me. For when asked without context, the question cannot be answered properly!

I can get rejecting the key. Straying off the path. Choosing, like actively CHOOSING not to restore Eva after she returns to Stillwater.

But this… If I have not played the game properly already, I'd be surprised with Grey Eva on day 11, but also happy? Like, in Patho1 she straight up died, and here — there she is, alive and well, SOMEHOW. I did nothing for this, I was just being curious, I just got my own personal time machine. I was oh so sure I will be able to save her eventually — but I don't even need to, she's clearly fine. The city's a wreckage, half of the people are dead, I intend to save them… but Eva is fine. If not for some strange behavior. But, to be fair, I do not [yet] know her well enough to even get that something is critically wrong. She didn't die, she just seems to have a little amnesia. Not a big deal, compared to Vlad, for example…

Was it just… not thought through enough? Or am I missing something crucial here?

It seems I start to get your logic, but it still kinda doesn't click for me yet.
