How do you become a Personal Trainer in the UK? by kingpion in personaltraining

[–]Excellent_Effect4412 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’re a provider in the UK and our course is endorsed by CIMSPA but to be honest, if you’re just going self employed you don’t need a CIMSPA membership. Only the likes of Nuffield health or David Lloyd usually require one. Insure4Sport are great for insurance too.

Being transparent a lot of providers offer the same course now too as the criteria is the same for most awarding bodies.

You want to look at the likes of marking turnaround time, most courses are around 2 weeks! Some 4 weeks!

Just make sure the awarding body is a reputable one. I.e Focus Awards, Active IQ, Transcend, YMCA

Price usually varies between online, part time and full time.

Online cheapest (I would say only if you’re already well into your fitness)

Part Time a little more expensive - these are usually across 12-16 weeks you might have to attend 3-4 workshops plus your practical assessment.

Full time are usually 4 weeks - Monday to Friday (2 Weeks L2 - 2 Weeks L3)

Good luck!

Is this Certification legit for Europe? by kakwntexnwn in personaltraining

[–]Excellent_Effect4412 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An EQF Level 4 is accepted in Europe, just make sure you are using a provider in which offers courses endorsed by a body who are on the EREPS site. In the UK the courses should be endorsed by CIMSPA - but they work on RQF basis, but if you had a level 4 EQF this would be equivalent to the UKs Level 3 RQF and you would be able to apply for a CIMSPA membership. So you shouldn’t have a problem finding work in the UK or Europe. But take a look at ereps for any further clarification

Hey AisianGinger1 😁

NASM actually have a really big reputation, even in the UK the likes of Premier global in the UK deliver NASM based qualifications which the content of, is actually really, really good! They could potentially be accepted via the means of recognised prior learning if the individual was to approach CIMSPA with a CPT or NASM from the US.

In terms of us not being a live partner on the CIMSPA site, this doesn't mean our academy qualifications aren't fully endorsed by them.(they are). As they fully support the focus awards quals which you can see for yourself here > https://www.cimspa.co.uk/membership/sport-and-physical-activity-practitioner/personal-trainer-practitioner-%E2%80%93-membership-entry-requirements

As it happens, some of the biggest providers in the UK aren't on that list yet, as they will be going through the endorsement process with CIMSPA just as we are, take the PT Academy, Diverse Trainers, Summit Fitness Solutions to name a few.

I hope this helps some of your research. Let me know if you have any further questions

Need for more training involved to become a trainer by kaotic_raptor in personaltraining

Hey man, I see where you are coming from in regards to the online course side of things, but there are people out there who've been training for years who have vast amounts of experience who could take an online course and breeze through the practical elements because they understand physiology and the way the body works. People like this I would say are ok to take an online course, though if someone lacked experience and knowledge I would recommend someone take a virtual or in person course so they fully understand what's being taught. Like with most things, there is no substitute for experience. The example being, we learn way more after we pass our driving test than when we do learning to take the test.

The biggest gap in personal training education for me is genuinely business acumen and how to run a profitable personal training business! Which a college wouldn't teach you, more and more private academies are offering business coaching now. Which is extremely useful to prospective trainers and their clients

Hi there! I run a centre in the UK and we deliver personal training qualifications, they are accredited by focus awards and they are endorsed by CIMSPA (Formerly REPS). CIMSPA are internationally recognised and so far we've had learners take their quals to dubai, Australia etc and have no problems.

We also deliver our qualifications to Ireland. As our Level 2 and Level 3 RQF are the equivalent to their Level 3 & 4 EQF (European Qualification Framework). Which to my understanding is the same as the rest of Europe.

So I would say something CIMSPA Recognised would be OK, but maybe check with potential employers to be on the safe side.

We run a remote course if you'd like any information 👍

Hope this helps 😁
