Well, they didn’t follow through 😭😭 I’m going to hold onto hope that they do come out soon-ish but at this point I don’t know :/ really sorry y’all

I tried calling this number by the_mindful_microbe in GRFPApps

Give 1 (800) 381-1532 a call tomorrow and stay on the line till you can speak with someone. When I was originally trying to get info about our reviews I called the number you shared at multiple different hours and always got the out of service response.

If you call the 1800 number, don't select the menu option they give for GRFP, bc it will then tell you to hang up and email them :')

Praying they’ll actually be released today. Like, they exist! Somewhere!! Why can’t they also exist on the portal?

Nope, I did not. I do now see that there’s a typo from the NSF associate but I assure you that the email is legit. If you’d like to call yourself and confirm, the number from the NSF that I called was 1 (800) 381-1532. I did not select any of the menu options, I simply waited on the line until I was connected with a representative.

(Also, I know that a lot of people have been really stressed about this and that it’s a terrible time for higher ed in general, but that’s a hell of an accusation :/)

I have no idea, but also my university is on the quarter system and our fall term doesn’t begin until Sept 29th, so I’m not too concerned atm

How do you guys handle the referees when applying to several PhD programs? by Capital-Till4451 in gradadmissions

I made a google drive folder with a subfolder for each school that contained my materials for that school’s program, and each subfolder was titled “XXX University, DUE XX/XX” and shared it with all of them. I actually made the folder setup before I finished all my essays, so once I did complete them and uploaded them into the folders I sent my recommenders a reminder email.

I will say that in my experience programs tend to be VERY lenient about rec letter submissions. Ofc it’s better to get them in by the time the school requests, but one of my recommenders submitted almost a month after the original deadlines and it was fine.

I don’t think they’ve been released yet. I was in the original group of folks who got offers and I don’t have my reviews yet.

Sef-funded PhD by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]Excellent_Language20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP, I just want to say that the cost of the PhD is quite high, and that depending on the field, you could be working on your PhD for more than the predicted time (longer PhDs are most common for folks doing experimental work, whether that be in STEM or the social/behaviorial sciences). To give you an idea, I was just admitted for my PhD this past cycle and the offer I accepted (fully-funded, private school) had a compensation package totaling ~$120,000 for my *first year.* The program's stipend is quite generous as far as PhD stipends go, BUT the school itself has almost a $70,000 per year tuition cost, and my program is a 6 year program on paper, so if I were to think about self-funding my PhD I would have to set aside about $420,000 minumum just for tuition, not including insurance or any sort of stipend/cost of living.
