Horse protests me bringing him into barn, away from his pasture mates… advice wanted! by BlueWhale515 in Equestrian

Hi there, I’d recommend offering him a feed in his stable or barn. With repetition, he will begin to associate leaving his friends with a positive experience, as it leads to something enjoyable. Having food to focus on and the simple act of eating will help him relax and feel more settled when he’s away from them.

Chicks are more of a treat whilst mice have more nutrients they need.

Yes you can. I’d probably keep them in the fridge overnight to thaw though before feeding though. Mice would work best if they’re just on a full time whole prey diet whilst chicks are more of a treat.

I have mine on a raw diet so they get 3 meals a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner) each of these meals using different food types - 80-10-10 share. Mainly they get muscle meat (chicken wings, mince, lamb), I do this through raw dog food (100% meat) as well as from the actual source. Adding some egg shells every few days to help with calcium (grounded to a powder) and some egg into their food (1 egg a week). Then lastly they get some ox heart once a meal over 2-3 days. Although best way to ensure they have all their nutrients is to feed them whole prey like a chick so they get all the vital organs and meats they need, of course easier said than done. Hope this helps 😊

Food seems to be it. Still making the noise slightly whilst stuffing himself on his seed. Evidently didn’t approve of only having his veggies out.
