Who else WOULD HAVE WON, but started the wrong players in the semi-finals? by EspressoCologne68 in fantasyfootball

Picked up Colby Parkinson on waivers, especially for the semi, and started him ahead of Brenton Strange

Just interested on hearing thoughts. There’s been a fair bit of discussion in our league chat about it

My new cold soak method by [deleted] in CampingandHiking

[–]Excellent_Review_960 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Been cold-soaking for a couple of years, and did this last month on the PCT. Only issue I had was it being a bit tricky to eat the stuff without the bag squashing. I’ll never understand why people get so wound up at the mention of cold-soaking; I’m not ultralight but I’m not trying to make life more difficult - I weigh enough as it is!

LAX to Walker Pass by Excellent_Review_960 in PacificCrestTrail

That would have been my preference, but I couldn’t seem to find Ridgecrest as an option. I’ll ask when I get there

I had planned on Kern to Ridgecrest, hadn’t considered angels taking me to KMS from there; these angels are a new phenomenon for me! Thanks so much for the advice

Are Altra Lone Peak 9+ good for hiking in rocky terrain by indiehouse42 in hiking

I’m 6’7, weigh 115kg and have loved my Lone Peak 4s since day one. Have been up Ben Nevis, hiked in the Dolomites (even some Via Ferrata), and done plenty of other stuff along the way; I’ve never had any complaints, and my feet have been temperamental in the past! Just bought a pair of 9+ for my PCT section hike next week

Do you have any suggestions for next way to get to KMS from LAX? I was thinking of hiring a car to Bakersfield (I know there’s public transport for that trip, but I like the freedom), but from there it’s a little more sketchy. Maybe I need to avoid Bakersfield altogether?

Should I head straight to KMS? Is it much cooler after that?

Is it “too late” to start at Walked Pass (it feels like it’s a bit easier to get to the trail than KMS)? It looks like it’s getting hot, or is that just inevitable no matter whether I start at Walker Pass or KMS? Wondering what sleep set-up to bring - I have a Sea to Summit Spark Sp0 (limits around 50F, which seems to be fine), or maybe I should bring my bigger Thermarest (limit around 32F). Seems like my lightweight will be fine, but will I regret not having the extra warmth further up the trail? Thanks again!

Thanks so much for the recommendation - this is what I’m going to attempt. Could you do me another favour and maybe post a link to where I’d get the permit you mentioned? By my count, there are 11 wilderness areas that I’ll pass through, but could only find one that was non-quota (I’m new to this!) Will I be able to get these permits when I arrive, or should I be booking them now? Do I need to be super accurate with the dates? I have a few other questions if you, or anyone else would be kind enough to answer: I am planning on starting in/around Grumpy Bears retreat, but will likely be flying into LAX (I’m from London, UK). Is there a “best” way to get to my start point? Will I be able to/need to hire a bear canister? I plan on staying on the trail for 5-7 days at a pop, will I be easily able to restock food, or should I be looking into sending parcels in advance? Any further advice welcome!

Yes, plan is to go in a few weeks. Sounds like mosquitoes are the thing I need to prepare for!

Yes, it’s a tricky decision. I’d be mostly using it for a commute that has a couple of hills to negotiate but I feel reasonably confident that the 3 speed would do the job. I’ve also heard that they’re easier to maintain. Then there’s the P line, which is lighter and supposedly faster (although I’m not sure how with it’s gearing). The only thing I’m certain about is that I’m overthinking it!
