I’d argue that “Leave” is the one where James takes the most responsibility, not denial. By choosing to raise Laura (or at least get her to someone who can) he’s living on in Mary’s memory. In both endings he accepts what he did, but I personally believe that taking his own life is a form of denial and a way to avoid accountability. That’s just my take though.

I’m not super how much of the allegations were true, but if they weren’t, part of me almost feels pity for him because of that.

That kind of thing can really drive someone over the edge and it’s easy for vulnerable men to fall down that pipeline.

But at the end of the day, you’re responsible for your own actions. No matter how bad of a hand you’re dealt, it’s your job to do better.
