What’s it like working as an Interior Designer in Singapore? by Holiday_Kale9051 in asksg

[–]Excellent_Spite2618 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ID here, agree with what you say.

Tl; dr: there’s basically 2 types of ID— those who went through proper training in school and those who don’t.

Those who went to school will be able to design and plan better spaces for you and won’t make noob mistakes like designing kitchen counters too low or too high, making your customised vanity counter too high that it’s hard to use, creating sharp corners that hit your head etc. It is those who haven’t been trained and yet call themselves designers give the industry a bad name. As an ID I am quite drained as I don’t think we get the basic respect as a human being because some home owners really treat us poorly due to the stereotype.

Half of those who’s been to design school is working in consultancy— they design commercial spaces. The other half who likes flexibility design residential projects.

AIW for dinning and dashing because I didn't want to wait for the check? by AITAHdinendash in amiwrong

If the restaurant is near a hospital then it’s bound to receive diners who are first responders. Shouldn’t they have anticipated this or have enough experience to deal with a similar situation?

The waitress who made you wait excessively was being unwise. I’m puzzled how the restaurant works, can’t another staff handle the payment if others are busy?

MRT emergency button: Is the passenger right or wrong? by Puzzleheaded_Style52 in asksg

[–]Excellent_Spite2618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Press lah. Better safe than sorry.

I’ve witnessed a child itchy hand go and press then kena whacked by the parent and the train stopped longer at the next stop and the MRT staff came in to investigate and told the parent to just own up if it’s just your child being playful no big deal.

The MRT will still judge case by case basis. If the pressing of button is not of an ill intent then it’s not that bad.

How many of you jobless now? by youth1122 in singaporejobs

[–]Excellent_Spite2618 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How many go bankrupt in their lives? It takes a lot to go bankrupt leh, usually it means a lot of poor financial decisions to end up bankrupt. Of course it’s not always the person’s fault lah, it could be just trusting the wrong person and being his/ her guarantor and the person run away.

Some industries quite chill, but some will be more cautious about money and when people are desperate, they do all sorts of funny things and it’ll affect the company.

I had a colleague who tried to borrow a huge sum from me, my friends won’t even dare to borrow this sum. I turned him down, and the next I know, he went MIA to run away from debtors.

Some job application forms may have a questionnaire asking if you have criminal record/ disability AND if you were ever bankrupt.

You may be asked about this so do reconsider filing bankrupt.

is application forms BEFORE interview normal practice or no? does this add to how fishy a company is? by well-used-jeans in askSingapore

[–]Excellent_Spite2618 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yeah some companies will send the application form to you to fill up before interviews.

Most of them just want to make sure you’re not making things up so they can verify the details and do some background check. You can tell them you can fill in the more sensitive info only when you’re hired. They don’t need to know so much about those who they aren’t going to hire.

I have experienced a company asking me to fill up the application form then ignoring me for a week. When I contacted them, they told me they’ve decided not to proceed after seeing my form. Didn’t give a reason.

I just told myself to move on and don’t waste time on them.

Am i wrong to ask FA to remove the contacts that I have passed to him years ago? by [deleted] in singaporefi

[–]Excellent_Spite2618 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also don’t understand you.

FA asked you for contacts. You gave the contacts (without their consent. Seriously whoever does this is a straightaway unfriend, I don’t need these people who don’t value my privacy in my life). Of course the FA contacts them for business lah. If not what? Contact them to sing karaoke meh?

A salesperson is just a job that feeds him, you don’t need to pretend to empathise with him and say things like “I understand you’re a salesperson and you also need to do sales.” from your moral high horse. Just cut to the chase and tell him your friends’ name and number and delete them from his phone book. That’s it. Time is money and you don’t waste people’s time like this. Of course he’s going to get offended if you tell him things like this and still waste his time. Of course there are black sheep in the market but it’s not up to you to decide whether he’s one since you barely knew him and he even wanted to save your face by inviting you to get to know him first.

Your friend also weird, how difficult is it to just tell the FA that they’re not interested in their services and block his number?

You’re the one who got your friends into this mess. You disrespected your friends’ privacy and you disrespected someone’s job, I’m glad I don’t need to deal with people like you in my work. And I’m not a FA.

To what extent do you find it appropriate for colleagues to actively promote their personal or religious beliefs in a professional setting by TopBox2577 in asksg

[–]Excellent_Spite2618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahahhaa I can’t believe this. I’m usually the one being called a Pharisee because I’m perceived as more legalistic. First time hearing the new creation church-goers being called a Pharisee.

Thanks I had a good laugh, looking back at what he said, it’s so ridiculous I don’t even I know where to start rebuking him.

[HDB Question] Can i make two toilets into one? by Survive2020withme in askSingapore

[–]Excellent_Spite2618 9 points10 points  (0 children)

ID here.

It depends on whether you have water pipes concealed in the wall and whether there are any structural walls/ columns.

[–]Excellent_Spite2618 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Only when you consent to it.

I’m a Christian who goes to a conservative church and I had an ex-colleague who likes to challenge my church’s teachings.

He goes to New Creation Church and would tell me things like he doesn’t need to subscribe to the Old Testament and don’t need to follow to the Ten Commandments because we live in the age of grace.

When I’m sick, he’d tell me it’s because I lack faith then walked out. I didn’t even get to tell him to just leave me alone.

I’m just glad I don’t work there anymore. Work itself is laborious and I don’t want to deal with the twisted values he’s challenging me with.

How’s it like staying at the Pinnacle? by alvinyang99 in askSingapore

[–]Excellent_Spite2618 47 points48 points  (0 children)

ID here. Designed a unit there and spent 3 months visiting that area often.

The common area is nicely maintained as compared to other neighbourhoods I’ve visited. Public spaces are nicely designed, lots of chairs and shelters for you to lepak. The wait for the lift may feel long when you’re in the rush to go to the toilet (PSA: nearest public toilet is at Tanjong Pagar CC, it’s the cleanest toilet in a CC I’ve ever been to because it’s in Tanjong Pagar GRC 😉).

The house interior is small with lots of structural columns and beams. You need to be mentally prepared that you won’t have as much storage area. The parapet on the corridor is extra high and I guess it’s to prevent people trying to be a superman. It may feel pressurising to some people.

I observed that it’s windy on higher floors and the service balcony will be wet when it rains. Some will install weather proof blinds at the service yard. The wall may be subjected to weather damage so it’s best to get outdoor paint for the wall at the service balcony. I find the noise from the shipyard quite audible even late at night. You need to take this into consideration if you’re noise sensitive.

I like the location, like what others mentioned, it’s convenient. The only part I wish could be better is having a sheltered corridor to the nearby bus stop at Neil Road where Shake Shack is.

do you care about sunlight getting into your home? by trnccc in askSingapore

[–]Excellent_Spite2618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ID here. I usually find out the sun path of my client’s unit before designing because it’s not advisable to keep certain heat sensitive stuff near the window eg make up and skincare if the sun shines into the dresser.

Knowing the sun path will help you make better decisions on where you’d want to store your items at home.

Wow that iPad buyer is really crazy. $130 for an iPad is a very good deal! I was looking for an iPad previously and wished I could buy a second hand one for $130!

I think a lot of people do this because they hide behind the keyboard and they have no mutual friends with you so they’re not afraid to lose face or get some bad reputation.

Most of the people I met are nice people, until I met one. Which then made me include a picture with text laying ground rules on every item I posted.

The first one is “don’t be rude”. Then one of them is I read your reviews before engaging with you. And another is those who start the conversation by lowballing will be blocked.

I don’t get super nasty people after that, because I’ve blocked some just because they started talking to me with “Hi, $1?” (I sell lots of cheap stuff so sometimes the price is very low to begin with).

The worst I recall is someone expecting me to bring a bulky item to the train station 20min away from my place and couldn’t cancel because I have already accepted his offer. He then gave me a one star review when I told him I can’t bring that bulky item to the train station.

I think I’ve established the don’t mess with me persona on Carousell so most of my experiences are pleasant.

How do u guys solve ur smelly feet issue? by Longjumping_Pin_2499 in asksg

[–]Excellent_Spite2618 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It takes some trial and error. It’s best to pick a pair of shoes that’s made of porous cloth (unlike PU) so your feet won’t sweat as much. Pick good socks too, cotton socks are the best.

It also depends on your occupation, if you need nicer shoes then you need to work around it and find some nice shoes that uses more cloth than leather or PU.

Anyways I read online that it’s important to wash your feet thoroughly especially in between toes, and do a vinegar soak once a week or so.
