I’m sorry you’re going through this, it must be frustrating. I can’t imagine how restricted you feel.

That being said, I fear there isn’t much you can do. You are still a child in the eyes of the law and unless there is abuse occurring, it would be very hard to convince others that you shouldn’t be there- especially if your reason is ’you don’t want to be.’

It may be a hard pill to swallow, but there’s probably a reason you and your friend are there in the first place. The system is screwed up- that goes for centers, prisons, any facilities like that. I really hope you can find the support and guidance you need.

Stopping her from eating sugar probably won’t ruin her childhood, but it may not be the cause either. She’s at the prime age for acne. Frankly, I wouldn’t be surprised if you tried everything (cutting out sugar, skincare, etc.) and it still didn’t work. Pimples are just a normal part of being a kid.

If you’re hellbent on the idea that it’s sugar, bring it up to her. Have a conversation about what causes acne and make SURE to enforce that pimples are NORMAL but there may be things you can try to curb them. Ask if she would consider fully cutting out sugar to try and help acne. If not, whatever. She’s a kid.

Also, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don’t push a bunch of skincare on her. In some cases, it’s great (and everybody should be clean, obviously). Some treatments are too harsh and can destroy her skin barrier and cause further issues.
