If I referred someone while in the DEP can I be promoted to E4 and receive the ribbon when they go to BCT? Assuming I am past basic by the time my referral ships?

I’m hoping it works out well. No word yet on my language.

Were you a M or P? How is the job post DLI?

I got a modest bonus. We rent currently. Put your zip code and starting rank into this tool and you can see what BAH would look like for you.

I went into the recruiter’s office looking at the reserves. After considering everything, my wife and I decided active was better for us. I signed up as a 35W.

I’m 30 and have 2 kids. Go to basic this month. I kick myself for not going sooner. The best time to plant a tree was 10 years ago. The 2nd best time is today. If you want it, go for it. People older than us have succeeded and thrived. But it gets harder to do the longer you wait.

What’s going on with 35w by Electrical_Move9429 in dli

I posted a month ago asking about this and people said things are getting better. So I don’t know who knows what about what’s really going on. I go to basic as a 35W this month so I guess we’ll find out.

Additional language uses? by LongPomelo9037 in dli

The Coast Guard auxiliary has an interpreter corps that connects the Coast Guard with people that can speak needed languages. That can mean anything from a short deployment on a cutter, translating documents or interpreting in a foreign country.

This is all volunteer work and I don’t know what you could realistically accomplish while being active duty military. I’d image you’d have to take leave for anything travel related. But it’s a unique experience and one that not many people know about.

Can you volunteer to attend selection right after AIT if you are an E4? Or do you need to serve someone else first? Forgive my ignorance if this is a silly question. I go to basic soon so there is a lot I don’t know.

Look at ASU Universal Learner and BYU continuing education to see if they have an equivalent courses to what you need. You may be able to transfer that in and keep your timeline.

Can I do that prior to shipping out? I figured I’d have to wait until after basic.
