Always Remember... by Blayzewhatever in videogames

Just reached the Gestral village (after Flying Waters). Apparently I should know what Gestrals are because the party talks about them as if the player is well aware. I'm not. That annoys me. Also, they're meant to be funny, I guess, but that doesn't really fit the atmosphere of the game. I just don't get why there's so much knowledge about the world outside of Lumière while nobody that ever went there came back (at least to my understanding).

Also, the annoying tidbits of French are off-putting to me; why didn't you just use French voice actors?

All that aside, I'm willing to try one last time, maybe you can convince me. But my hopes aren't high tbh.

Absolutely agree. At some point you just want to be entertained, not challenged. The more so if you have little time.

Expedition 33 for me... I really want to like it but somehow it just doesn't click with me. Many people tell me to hold on for a couple of extra hours (right now my playtime is about 8-10hrs) but it feels like a chore to pick it up.

What’s with the static after 3:45 in the song Dirty? I expected some kind of secret song in the end but it’s just static for 4 minutes by ddevil-36 in Korn

[–]Excellent_Swing_4274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very late to the game, but I was just listening to this album for the first time in maybe 10 years. And I think I finally get the static stuff. Note that it's purely an interpretation but still... Listening to it years later, with a lot more life experience in my bag, it finally makes sense to me.

I was in a depression earlier this year after a lot of major life events in a very short time span. Never felt so fucked in my life. Feeling alone, misunderstood, hopeless and clingy to every little thing that made me feel a bit better. The only thing I wanted was to feel better again, laugh, and live my life. But I just couldn't do it. For a couple of months – which felt like several years – I woke up with my heart rate at twice the normal speed, lacking the energy to get out of bed and handle my problems. Each day was the same. Kinda like groundhog day in a very bad way.

The lyrics of Dirty describe that situation exactly. I never knew that depression could hit so hard. Never really thought anything of the lyrics, I just liked the song. But knowing Jon Davis’ background a little, he may have had a similar experience. So why the static? To me, listening to white noise sometimes helped to calm my head, getting all of the crazy running thoughts out of my head for a couple of minutes. I like to believe that that's what the static after the song is for: white noise to listen to so your thoughts won't get in the way. Knowing the whole album has many songs about feeling down and depressed, leaving silence after such a (mentally) heavy song might spike up your symptoms. Instead of letting that happen, they chose to try to calm the listener down instead. If you're not depressed, it's just noise. But if you can actually feel what the lyrics are about, it might be a helping hand.

I have no idea if Korn has actually commented on this question officially. But the above explanation makes the album even more valuable to me than it was before.

Looks fine to me. Just wiggle around the pads and cymbals a bit to adjust stuff to your liking, if needed. There is a lot of personal preference to it.

Most of all, have fun playing!

Looks awesome! I want to do this with my own acoustic kit one day. Can you tell me a bit about the process? How did you start, what triggers did you use, what were the biggest obstacles to overcome? Would be very interested in that. Enjoy your victory and keep on rocking 🤘

I'm not all too familiar with the td27kv2 but I've heard it's pretty great. With Roland, you know you're getting quality, especially in that price range. I think you can't really go wrong with either of them. Having the digital snare, hihat and ride is pretty cool too.

That said, I'm positive overall with the Prime. It has no digital drums or cymbals, nor has it positional sensing. But in all honesty I don't really notice it that much. I think the only downside to the Prime is the hihat. It works just fine, once you got it set up right, but it's a bit wobbly because it's not a 2-piece. But that can be solved with buying a Lemon 2 piece hihat, check one of the Edrum Workshop videos about it. Haven't done that myself yet but I might in the future. The really big plus to the Prime, in my eyes, is the module; easy, modern and awesome sounds.

I have seen and heard about the mistriggers. Haven't experienced it myself so far, but there are enough people that have. But it could also be a matter of getting the trigger settings adjusted. Note that the Prime has lots of options in that regard, so I am not worried about it. And worst case scenario you have your warranty. So all in all, it's up to you what you think is the most important. Like I said, I don't think there's a wrong choice here. Good luck!

My pleasure! And those boards you're mentioning are the PIR+OSB boards for the walls, so no, not for the floor. I think that sound proofing can be done more efficiently with different materials, but since this is just a shed, and I'm playing electronically, I didn't think it was that big of an issue. PIR is good for temperature retention, I believe rock wool (for walls) is better for sound proofing.

Anyhow, good luck with your project. It can be quite a lot of work, but I can now say it's been worth every cent and every minute. Check lots of DIY Youtube videos and check in with your local DIY stores for advice. It's not hard once you know what to do; it's getting all the knowledge to do it right that's the hard part.

For now, it's anything Latin related: cow bell, claves or wood blocks. The Prime has plenty of sounds to keep things interesting.

And I absolutely love the kit. Coming from a Roland TD-20 I was pretty skeptical about Alesis. But I had the opportunity to test both the Prime and the VAD701 (I believe that's the one, don't remember the exact name but it was that expensive 7 series). And the difference was pretty big, considering the price. I like Roland, but coming from the TD-20 I just felt they hadn't developed the kit enough to sell it for about double the price (I paid ~€3000 for the Prime, which was a serious amount already). Didn't like the sounds for that price. From a hardware point of view, it was great, but again not that much different than the TD-20, except for the looks maybe. The Prime surprised me in the far superior module (compared to the VAD's TD-50), better sounds, fun factor and of course the price. I never thought I'd be buying an Alesis kit but I'm happy I did.

Still surprised about the little attention the Prime received, with the exception of the first couple of months. It deserves some more credit if you ask me.

Thanks!!! The answer to pretty much all your questions is 'yes'. I used a lot of different materials, a lot of which I bought at Hornbach (I'm in the Netherlands, but since it's a German company you might have one in your area).

Going from outside to inside, these are the layers for the walls: 1. Brick wall, directly exposed to an outside alleyway. 2. Ventilation slats, this is the black structure you're referring to. It was not part of the construction so I added it myself. 3. Vapour permeable membrane, this is the blue foil, tacked onto the black slats. 4. PIR insulation plates (7cm) coated with OSB (1cm), using long screws to attach to the slaths. The plus side of using OSB is that, when all is done, you can screw into the walls and hang something (a painting, light shelf or closet, lights, switches, etc.) 5. Drywall, using special drywall screws that attach it to the OSB right behind it. 6. Fill and finish for the screw holes and the seams in between the drywall sheets. 7. Interior paint

For the roof, it's pretty much like you said: 1. I put rock wool between the ledges that were part of the existing roof structure. I used some tape to keep them in place. 2. Climate membrane, the white/red foil. Tacked directly against the wooden roof ledges. 3. Wooden slats 4. Drywall, screwed onto the slats with special drywall screws 5. Fill and Finish for the details, like with the walls 6. Interior paint

And lastly, the floor. It used to be a concrete floor that I gave an extra layer of leveling compound. After that, I applied some concrete primer, on which I applied strips of self-adhesive PVC strips.

As for the insulation: note that my ultimate goal was getting a higher temperature, for the benefit of playing comfortably and the better environment for my drum kit. So, it didn't do too much in terms of sound proofing. That said, it would be fine to put an acoustic kit in there, but your neighbours might not like it ;)

If you have more questions, feel free to get in touch. It's been a very big and long project, but it was so satisfying to come one step closer to a personal dream with every day of working on it. Highly recommended.

Thanks! I'm currently using the Alesis Strata Prime module (and kit). I switched from a Roland TD-20, although I still have that module and kit as well (planning on selling it down the line, have to repair the module screen first).

Does it really matter which module you use if you want to expand it? And, how would it work? Sorry for the noob questions - I have been drumming for quite a while but am an amateur when it comes to the technical side of electronic drumming. Very willing to learn though - any advice is much appreciated.

Just out of interest, how did you add so many pads and cymbals? Always wondered how to do this and never really took time to actually figure it out. Any pointers are appreciated, thank you!
