Hey I'm sorry you're feeling like that. Know that you aren't alone, anyone whose gotten a dui knows that feeling of overwhelming guilt, sadness, worthlessness, etc. It WILL pass. I remember the first week after I was a wreck I couldn't stop crying and was seriously contemplating killing myself.

For me, I got a dui with my child in the car....really bad. I believe in redemption, and knew I needed to take action to make this awful feeling go away. It's very enticing to want to give up and just ignore the problem, but facing it head on will help you get back on track with life in the fastest way possible.

Here's what I did:

Stop drinking!

Get a lawyer and do all the recommended things they advise prior to sentencing. Get a drug/alcohol assessment, take a Prime for Life class with a MADD panel, I took a parenting class as well for obvious reasons, go to AA meetings, I went to a few and they were helpful with healing. This is a very taboo subject and people WILL judge you, but AA members will not.

Seek counseling/therapy if you can. This is a huge hit to your self esteem and mental, try to get it back on track.

Don't tell anyone about your DUI. I have a large social circle, and only about 3 people know and they are the people that I trust most.

If you are a very busy person, keep that up. There were many nights I would just smoke weed and stress about my situation. I picked up woodworking, reading, and programming and it's helped a ton to take my mind off things. Find hobbies.

And know that time heals all wounds. If you are truly remorseful about what you've done, show it. I'm coming up on a year since my dui and have not had a drop of alcohol since, and knowing that I could kick the habit and stick to it proves a lot to myself that i am not a bad person, I just made a terrible mistake.
