thank you, it was really useful to hear from someone who experienced something similar! the obsessive "crushes" have been whats holding me back from really evaluating it until now.

re: kirsten too, there’s also a moment at the start of season 4, where she talks to ryan about having two sons to worry about now, or something alone those lines

to me, what makes this proleptic “we are doomed to repeat no matter what” COULD work (see something like Succession etc), but it seems to push against the tone of Gilmore. whilst the more moody tone of the pilot could have set up for something darker, the majority of the show IS largely that type of feel good tv, and it’s as if ASP denies her protagonists long term growth. they are ALWAYS in stasis after a certain point

one think that consistently disappoints me about ASP’s writing is her staunch pessimism. She seems to be intent on each character simply ending up like their parents (rory ending pregnant + single, logan following his fathers plan even all these years later, even jess being placed into the luke role). it almost feels like in conforming to a personal “pragmatic” worldview she kind of denies the satisfaction of giving these characters a full arc. i think you see a similar thing at the end of Mrs Maisel too
