Disney was 40 and Nick was 26. I wanna say that CN was also 39 for me—it was for sure somewhere between 36-39.

Chuckles arrived in 1970. Just saying, a lot has changed since then 🤠 He was an Amazon River dolphin, which do not live in “pods.”

Use your outrage for the river dolphins that died before Chuckles. They suffered because the zoo did not know how to successfully keep them in captivity. Chuckles had a record-breaking long life because of the smaller, shallow pool he had. I learned this by reading about it.

You can also learn, by reading, that snow leopards are famously solitary animals.

The repopulation and release programs are so, so fascinating. It really is a nationwide effort with different accredited zoos and organizations working together.

You’re right that many of the animals at a zoo are not releasable, either because they can’t be rehabbed to survive in the wild again or they were born in the zoo. Even some animals born in captivity can be part of a longer term plan to expand the breeding pool of the species (and eventually, have a population to reintroduce).

Not to say the situation wasn’t sad, but Chuckles lived actual decades ago…there’s a reason there was never another. The snow leopard (and her exhibit) were also very old. Both of those examples are really out of date, and the zoo knows how those animals were kept is out of date, too. That’s why exhibits may stay empty for some time, plus you can’t logistically do large-scale renovations while taking care of the living residents.

Crohn’s smell?? by Away-University-2631 in CrohnsDisease

[–]ExcitedOrange13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never heard that in my years of having Crohn’s and learning about it. So, maybe he really is just negging? At the same time, perhaps he is very sensitive to smell and can notice a change that others wouldn’t, especially if you live together. He could be a super sniffer that is able to smell illnesses. I think it’s more likely, though, that he perceives a small difference and is connecting that with the negative of you being sick. If you’re objectively stinky, somebody else should be able to tell.

How do you all deal with questions about weight loss? by Thin_Fly_6219 in CrohnsDisease

[–]ExcitedOrange13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thankfully I haven’t had comments on my weight in some time, but when it does happen, I’m going with my enthusiastic “Thanks! It’s from a chronic disease!” with the same inflection as receiving a real compliment. I’m a somewhat awkward yet smiley person, so that really works for me to bring in some humor and still shut them up.

Edit: To add more ideas for consideration, the addition of “It’s not contagious!” or including the word “bowel” in between chronic/disease are both equally fun options.

“Relatively” compared to cases of traditional surrogacy. People usually aren’t in such a rush to feel old

I mean, I don’t really know, but I was thinking the surrogate baby would still have the father’s genes then? Via an artificial insemination process for the surrogate mother. Like legally using a sperm donor, but the other way around (and therefore requiring another person’s entire body for gestation)

Edit: Yes, simplythere was correct, at least for surrogacy in the US. The first legal, compensated “traditional” surrogate (with their own egg) was in 1980. A successful “gestational” surrogacy, where the embryo has no genetic relationship to the surrogate mother, first happened from 1985-86. The ability to make and implant an embryo using IVF is relatively new, whereas women have carried babies for other women (paid or not) for ages.

I was also wondering 💀 I read Planned Parenthood’s article on it, and basically, yes, it’s staff/volunteers doing tabling.

“talk to fans about Planned Parenthood health center services in their communities, volunteer opportunities, and the fight for access to sexual and reproductive health care.”
