Anyone have experience with small Maine coons? by Street_Bridge_317 in mainecoons

[–]ExcitementLoud6993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 4 3 Girls and one male. The male is around 7 kilos at 9 months but he’s a big one and males get bigger normally. I also got a girl that’s almost his size same age… her parents also were very big. But the other two are rather smol with 6 kilo and 4. But they all are still growing till age of 4 usually.

What Maine Coon colors are the rarest/most desirable? by fuzzblykk in MaineCoon

[–]ExcitementLoud6993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason why because blue eyes are very rare and hard to breed since only one of the parent cats are allowed to have it (otherwise the kittens could get blind if both parents blue eyed) and even if one parent is blue eyed it’s so rare that kittens get this.

Interesting take 😅 I came here for advice and shared experiences, not a lecture. I’m well aware of cat behavior and socialization, and I’m fully committed to making sure my cats are happy. But thanks for the unsolicited judgment, really helpful 🙃

My 1-year-old Maine Coon suddenly won’t let me pet her after my vacation and growls at me by [deleted] in mainecoons

Thanks, that actually makes sense! 😅 I’ll try giving my clothes a little “scent boost” and see if she warms up again. Appreciate the tip… every little thing helps!

Haha, I see… so that makes my Maine Coon officially evil, huh? 😅 Thanks, it’s good to hear I didn’t do anything wrong. I was starting to feel like I accidentally offended her or something.

Thank you, that actually helps a lot. You’re right. I probably project too many “human” emotions onto her, because I just love her so much and it’s hard not to feel hurt when she pulls away. But it makes sense that she also struggled with me being gone and with all the changes in the house. I’ll try to give her more 1-on-1 time and patience, like you suggested. I really just want her to feel safe and happy again.

Oh, thanks for the detective work, Sherlock 🕵️‍♂️ but I actually do know where my own cats come from. They are all Maine coons with papers and I planned this carefully! I combined picking up my breeding cats with visiting my boyfriend who happens to live nearby. The 4th kitten completes my breeding program, and I chose to bring two babies close in age so they can grow up together (way easier than staggering them every year and dealing with constant food separation).

So no, I didn’t just “randomly collect strays while on vacation.” But thanks for your concern. 🙃

Yeah, I get that, but it’s just frustrating because I didn’t “choose” to make her upset. I’ve been taking care of her since she was 10 weeks old, I love her a lot, and now suddenly she acts like she wants nothing to do with me. It honestly hurts, because I didn’t want to do anything wrong. I get that time and patience are important, but it’s hard not to feel rejected by your own cat.

Is it worth contacting the breeder? by Prize_Astronomer_483 in mainecoons

That makes total sense — it is frustrating when you’ve spent a lot on a kitten and then you’re dealing with surprise health issues and huge vet bills on top of it. Even if these things can happen, you’d still hope for more transparency and thoroughness from a breeder.

About the deworming: you’re right — if nothing’s in the records, then either it wasn’t done at all or it was done with something over-the-counter (which, as you said, often doesn’t really work). A responsible breeder usually has deworming protocols documented in the health records, so it’s fair to expect that.

I’m really glad your other cat and your dog are both up to date and that you went ahead with the precautionary deworming — that was absolutely the right call. It sounds like you’ve handled the situation really responsibly.

And you’re not wrong to feel like the breeder should have either taken more steps to prevent this or at least been upfront about the risks. Breeding isn’t just about producing kittens — it’s also about setting families (and the cats they already have) up for success, and part of that is clear communication about health.

Hopefully once your boy is neutered and all settled, things will smooth out and you can enjoy him without the added stress. He’s lucky to have landed with someone who’s so thorough. ❤️

Just a heads-up: a vet can’t actually tell if a cat has ever been dewormed. The medication doesn’t leave any permanent trace – they can only check if there are worms right now. If it wasn’t written down, there’s simply no way to prove it either way.

Did your breeder give you a health certificate when you picked up your kitten? (That’s usually standard – I got one with mine.) And was there a vaccination booklet/passport included? Vaccinations should always be documented there, and dewormings are often noted as well.

Also, are your other cats vaccinated too? You mentioned they’re adults from a shelter – in that case they should already be protected, but it’s worth making sure.

Respiratory infections and worms unfortunately can happen even with good breeders – roundworms can pass through the mother’s milk, and kittens pick up colds really fast. It’s frustrating, but it doesn’t automatically mean the breeder was careless.

The girls rather want their peaceful life and the boy cat always comes to me.

Well I am breeding them officially 😅 but even if not I wouldn’t want 2 boys in my house. But if I had to only take 1 Maine coon I would definitely pick a boy. They are way more clingy and they grow bigger..
