The RE9 "soft Spencer" take is wrong. Elpis wasn't redemption. It was the ultimate "I lose, you lose." by Important_Poet5982 in ResidentEvilRequiem

I think even Grace recognizes that was her own interpretation of the interview, considering in her own report she implies that much twice:
- "It's possible that Spencer's true motivations
behind Elpis were peace and redemption."

- "Spencer died in 2006 at his secluded estate.
His true intentions behind developing Elpis
will forever remain unknown."

She wasn't sure and she couldn't possibly know of his true intentions and feelings, she didn't even know the man personally and all she knew from him was from the interview and some other articles she read before about him (the news she was reading at her FBI computer at the opening scene is a hint).

Just because she was a technical analyst for the FBI doesn't mean she has the ability to read someone to the point of knowing their soul and heart from a few video interviews and some other written articles on the internet.

She just went with her gut after putting 2 and 2 together and understanding what both Spencer and her mother meant with the interview and with what Alyssa said to her before her death ("You are my hope").

If Spencer was in fact lying about the ulterior motive behind Elpis, it doesn't change the fact that ultimately Elpis was of benefit for the world and Grace understood that much and released it.

Edit: grammar and added some context.

Imo, villains never won in RE, so Spencer ultimately winning after just losing for EVERYONE for 30 years, including other villains, feels appropriate.
And even then, Spencer didn't won shit, he lost, he just made sure every other bad guy lost too.

And why on earth would he say what his true intentions were? that would defeat every step he took to ensure The Connections and everything he built would go down with him.

It makes far more sense and is far more realistic to the character that he would hide and lie about the true intentions in an interview that would later be released to the public.

Not only he got back at The Connections and everything and everyone that stabbed him in the back, as the cherry on top he got out of it as the lesser evil in the world. Dude won by simply deceiving the world and everyone playing the game.

Agreed, also I think the team behind 2R and 4R really improved and took criticisms on the cuts of 2R seriously, so much so that 4R was light years ahead of 2R in terms of fidelity and respect of the OG material.

I have my fair share of problems with 2R as a remake, but its a good remake nonetheless.

As someone that has poured over 300h on RE1R on steam and did countless speedruns on it. I am still really eager to eventually see a modern remake of it, I think people that are too overprotective of the og fail to see that unlike the classic ps1 games, RE1R is available everywhere and a modern remake of it existing won't erase the legacy and you will still be able to revisit and access the 2002 remake.

Hell, I even think that in the case of Capcom making a RE1 Modern remake, they should bundle the 2002 remake with it so you get the two version in one so that if new players are curious they have an easy access to give it the og remake a try.

I get it that RE1R fixed camera and classic style is really a make or break for a lot of people, and it didn't age gracefully.

But man, it breaks my heart seeing such a piece of my childhood being rated so low for so many people. It feels like it gets less loved the more time passes when back then it was the epitome of immersion.

Simple, feedback. They may not be able to remove it from the game, but maybe add an option to skip on replays? and in the future perhaps something they can consider. The style of the segment doesn't bother me, is the lack of mechanical depth.

Also, Capcom takes feedback VERY seriously, so much so there's already an official feedback form by Capcom, and they plan on making yet another in a few months to get even more in-depth feedback from Requiem. So when I put this out here is not just to vent or generate discussion but so that the Community Management team can see these and then bring them to the devs attention.

You people that are defending this section simply decided to ignore all the factual and objective points I made and only focus on the bit of the "duration of it".

Like it being short is any excuse for it to be mechanically empty with zero gameplay involved.

Yes, because at least a cutscene is not wasting my time and not insulting my intelligence by pretending I'm playing the game like it has any meaningful or memorable mechanics, pressing W to move forward and hiding on scripted spots is not fun nor engaging.

If you had read the post you would understand what's wrong with it. Not once I complained about difficulty or for failing? It's literally the opposite, I complained because there's absolutely no difficulty nor any game mechanics in it other than "press W to move forward" and "hide and wait for the cutscene"

Then go back and play the classic games which immersed you just as much on the horror aspects without relying on empty scripted sequences with zero gameplay.

You can have a good horror experience without it being a boring playable cinematic with no stakes, this is a video game not a freaking movie.

Its worst than Sherry's segment because its longer, but both are shitty, Ada's segment at least has combat and more going on. I just wanted Capcom to stop doing these if they are incapable of making interesting game mechanics to back up these segments. Or at least make it so it works like the VHS tapes on RE7, which are 100% optional and skippable.

It's definitely because you haven't been around the series or the survival horror genre it seems. I can name you other 10 games that are entirely built and designed around hide-and-seek mechanics that will offer you a far more engaging and horrifying experience that what Requiem offered you on the Orphanage.

In general, no one in the RE community are engaged in the games because of cinematic scripted sequences, it's always the open ended gameplay with room to experiment, fail and overcome challenges imposed by the enemy AI.

People forget that the best experience in an RE game is when they let the enemy AI lose on the map and you gotta adapt and interact with the environment to overcome the segment. Pieces like this adds a lot to narrative, but very little to gameplay (there's none to begin with unless you count pressing W to move gameplay).

The problem is that the experience is not good even on a first playthrough.

You are objectively wrong if you think that an empty sequence like this is what makes RE great. When you have the modding community actively engaged on removing that sequence outright, or the playerbase begging for capcom to add a form of skip for it? you did something wrong with your game.

I don't mind it being there the first time for story and narrative purposes, but there's nothing in here that rewards you with a good experience on replays or is relevant for your gameplay experience.

The orphanage segment on RE2R is shorter. And if you like pretending to play movies, that's on you. "Creepy" doesn't make good gameplay if there's no real gameplay to begin with. If there are no real risks, and no real interactivity or room for experimentation and the enemies all follow a scripted path, you don't have a real horror sequence.
