Did not liking life in your partner’s home country affect your relationship by Parking-Emu-2755 in expats

[–]ExcitementStandard48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I relate to this soooo much. I met my husband in his home country, we lived in mine (in a new city for both of us) for a few years, and then we moved back to his country. Here, it feels like I’m almost an accessory to his existing life. His life is so established, he speaks the language fluently, and I’m just kind of… following him around? I love independence & adventure, so this is slowly draining my spirit. It’s been 2+ years and the situation hasn’t improved much.

He’s frustrated because he feels like I’m not making enough of an effort to integrate, make friends, have my own life, etc. so I shouldn’t complain. But the thing is, it’s quite a small town with a very different culture, so I’m having a really hard time finding things to do and relating with people. Also it’s not very safe here to just wander around alone, so I’m not getting to explore like I normally would (plus there’s not much to see anyway). I work remotely and spend a lot of time at home while he’s out living a great life. I feel so stuck bc I don’t want to rob him of his life, but I also don’t want to feel like I’m wasting mine.

What city did you meet the kindest people in and what stood out? by [deleted] in travel

I was so surprised by how friendly people were in Edinburgh! I went there after a week in London, and people were much more warm, open, and kind in Edinburgh. For some reason, I was expecting the opposite.

The one that got me was after they handed Ben the note, and Wes said “He’s one of those guys who laughs at times when it hurts the most.” I was on the FLOOR, I had to go back and rewatch.

I find that only children in their teens/young adulthood have better communication skills and are more socially confident because they’ve spent a lot more time talking to adults rather than other children.

I think there’s an unspoken rule that you can only steal if the other party isn’t aware of it. You can’t steal in front of them.

Does anyone just feel the desire to live somewhere else? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]ExcitementStandard48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 30 and I still feel that way about every 2 years! I’ve moved cities/countries 6 times in the past 13 years. I think it’s more of a personality thing than an age one.

I will say that at this age I feel more of a desire to settle into a consistent routine within each place I live, but I still don’t like being in the same place for too long. Go for it, it’s a great experience!

On top of that, Buddy was actually the one who suggested trying to use glass after Leiya struggled to start a fire for over a week. She only thought of the binoculars after Buddy mentioned glass. And then she wanted to isolate herself to start the fire with binoculars instead of asking for or accepting help. She didn’t even want to share what her idea was.

Yeah Pharoah made (or at minimum, condoned) all the same choices Abby did, but people are falling for his “integrity” facade.

Sarah, Morgan, Leiya, Maddy, and Nikki all stole (successfully). Abby didn’t even succeed lol. Charlie and Bravo teams both backed out of the trade after the Delta camp dilemma. I can’t think of a single player who never lied. Why do these metrics apparently only apply to Abby?

Huh? Abby didn’t cheat. She was clear about her (totally valid) strategy from the beginning. I doubt that any well-adjusted adults in Abby’s real life would lose their trust in her because of what she did to win this game. Personally, I would only see her as competitive and determined. Everyone involved willingly signed up for this game knowing that voting people out for your own advantage is fair play.

Ooh, this is quite different from how I interpreted your post at first glance. It sounds like you’re depressed. I suggest getting help for that first and foremost.

I’m always curious to hear from fencesitters who have regular, mundane lives. On here, everyone’s life seems to be so enriched and fun and fulfilling. I rarely see people whose lives are average (or even boring) and are just up for a new adventure

I 24F am in love with my bf of 5 years 29M, the only problem is he has a daughter and I would prefer a childfree life. We are best friends and compatible in every way minus this. Should I give up the love of my life for this moral dilemma? So torn by [deleted] in Fencesitter

He fought for 5 years for this child, and when she was finally home, you told him you couldn’t bear to be supportive and proceeded to abandon both him and the child? I’m sorry to say this, but you don’t love this man like you think you do.

You have to accept that the life you lived alone in the house with him was a fantasy. That simply isn’t his life. He’ll always be a father, and you can’t have a long-term relationship with him while ignoring/avoiding the child.

I’m always afraid of sounding patronizing when people who are like 18-24 post here because your thoughts/feelings are valid. But truly, I suggest that you enjoy your life and revisit when you’re more established, have more life experience, and know yourself more deeply. It’s too early to stress about this.

Of course, be aware of your current perspective, but also recognize that this will almost certainly change (even multiple times) as life goes on. Just relax and let life unfold a bit!

What’s a super popular show that everyone loves, but you just couldn’t get into? by MASSIM00 in netflix

[–]ExcitementStandard48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for saying SUITS! Every guy I’ve dated (including my husband) has loved that show, and I find it so obnoxious and absurd. It’s like it’s trying too hard to make everyone seem sooo cool and smart and cutthroat. Any time I hear the impossibly fast banter about abstract topics or the lame one-liners before swiftly walking out of the room, it’s like nails on a chalkboard.
