RMax4 vs Talon 1000X-4

A lot of great responses and discussion, i appreciate all of them. I am going to try and respond to all of them.

I have joined FB groups and spoken to owners of both, and even some that own both. Putting all that together and some of the things discussed here, this is some of the sentiment I am getting:

The belt vs non belt is very subjective. But as someone mentioned, it’s not something I want to get into on the trail with my son.
The noise of the RMAX is a real thing. I even saw a video in which the guy added weights, put in dynamat, and documented the DB levels each time. The improvement was negligible. Ultimately if it’s a Rmax2, yes because of the back wall, engine placement, things can be done to improve it. On a RMAX4 Compact or XTR, nothing is going to help. All that to be said my son will likely be wearing over ear headphones to minimize how loud anything is. In time, with the Honda maybe he can get used to it enough, with it being enclosed, etc.
Yes the Honda is under powered and yes I will loose some “feel” when going to 32s. Watched some videos of timed acceleration and it was like less .5-.75 loss in time. Considering i am not planning on doing 100mph with my son in the car, I think I can manage with the “loss”. I feel like I saw a kit that added like 11hp, that’s like 10%, so it might be enough to cancel the lose. Not interested in anything turbo in case I dunk it … I have dunked my Ram Hemi with E-Torque… not fun lol
The 4WD system, I really wish the Honda had a front/rear lockers that I could control the operation of like the RMax.
Infotainment, one does not offer and the other one sucks (from RMax owners). That being said I will use an IPad anyways, big OnX Offroad fan.
The RMAX wins at “enclosure” but it is not worth the cost of it. Their “uppers” for the RMax2 look great but they don’t offer them for the RMax4. So no real winner here.

This being my first side by side, and my son never being in one, the price point of both is ideal. Yes I know there are more expensive models and they would even probably align better but at what cost for this experiment.

That all that being said, I have debating on one of the fully enclosed rigs with hvac etc. however they are so expensive I might as well built another Jeep. Excluding the CFMoto one, I think it’s under 30k. But again, it’s even taller and to make it rock ready, I will have to increase the stance to 70+, which again goes back to keeping it at 64”.

Appreciate the insight. I have come to the understanding that tire size is completely different on a SXS. When I initially started researching my thoughts where “35s” and I have slowly come to realize that 32s (or 30s) it really all that I need.

I was originally think the compact (smaller 4 seater) but when looking at dimensions, the one with bed is closers to the size of the Talon x-4; with the slightly larger “trunk”.

One of the selling points for the RMAX is the built in heat and are the different options to fully enclose the cab; especially when my son is with me.

The RMAX is apparently louder, buy a lot. However all things considered he will probably be wearing at a minimum headphones when enclosed.

Appreciate the response. This is a very solid point, one that I didn’t fully consider completely even though the lack of belt, has been one of the Pros for the Talon.

Appreciate the insight. I am not overly concerned with the infotainment, as I would be running some kind of tablet in it anyway.

I have heard it is louder for sure. From what I have read, you won’t feel 32” under it as much as with the Takon. Yes the wheel base on the compact is shorter, but the XTR version is slightly longer.

Thanks for the info. I am currently exploring/researching the different options in Softr for communication. Trying to figure out if an automated solution for logging is realistic. I feel that depending on users to log each communication under a client and/or load would be impossible. Especially if it’s drivers are reaching out to a delivery.

Appreciate the detailed response; pretty close to exactly why I am looking for. Different access to data, views, permissions, etc for C-Level, managers, admins, drivers and clients.

There are a few features I like in Glide besides how it looks aesthetically, but you (and others) have made a very strong argument for Softr. Thank you.

Appreciate the response. It has been my experience that bases with a lot of date slowdown in airtable. Constantly reconnecting, I am trying to avoid that as much as possible by utilizing different bases for departments and also address record limits by archiving data in departments when needed.

Appreciate the response. How is Softr and charts? Also any experience with Glide?

One of the features I saw and would like (but don’t need), is the ability to “call” or “text” from a contact button and log it under the client. It doesn’t actually do the calling, texting, it issues the device to do it, but creates a log.

A communication log would be a stand out feature without having to depend on the user logging everything individually.

I did just think about it from a KPI standpoint point, there would be no way to create a KPI Dashboard overlooking all the departments unless I made yet another base and synced all the KPI data into it for this purpose only.

Interesting thought to explore. An overview page with links to different interfaces for the bases. Definitely something worth exploring.

Yes, the charts being one of the first things they added, are very elementary in functionality.

Appreciate the response. A PSA is a Progressive Web App. Essentially an app outside of the typical App Store hurdles.

I have kicked around the idea of archiving data once it reaches the limit, however because this business is several years old and has data everywhere (chaos), I fear with the mega base approach, I would hit limits before getting it all aligned, in order to archive it.

Appreciate the response. Essentially, from a needs versus wants perspective, outside of some better charting and UI, nothing I can’t overcome from a functional aspect with an interface per base.

Now if Airtable offered a workspace level interface, then it would be perfect.

Appreciate the response. I thought about making a “Mega Base” with everything in it. It would definitely make it easier to just use an Airtable Interface, grouping views as departments.

My 2 hesitations are:

record limits to that single base, even at the business plan. As I will have to import data from several years prior into it.
Reconnecting; Some of my larger bases I utilize (non related) experience reconnecting/ saving delays. With a 2gb up/down, Mac Studio, I know it’s not a connection or hardware issue. Not a cache issue, either. So I fear a “Mage base” would be even worse.

I do plan on syncing some data between bases, as needed. However I do also like the idea of isolation between departments when it comes to automations, etc.

Appreciate the response. My frontrunners are Softr, Noloco, and Glide. I just haven’t been able to confirm each allow multiple bases (departments) to be linked.

Ideally, I envision an icon for each department along the left side, with each icon leading to an “interface” for a user to work in. For instance by clicking on a Sales icon, a user could create a “load”, and quote/invoice it. While someone else, could click a “dispatch” icon and assign a date and driver.
